Feb. 25, 2026 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hunan Province, China

(Minghui.org) A Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province, woman was arrested on February 10, 2026, for her faith in Falun Gong, while she was still mourning her mother’s death four days ago. Her adopted daughter, an elementary school pupil, had to move in with her birth mother.

The latest arrest of Ms. Liu Rongpei, born in 1963, stemmed from an earlier detention around July 20, 2025. The Lusong District Police Department and its subordinate Longquan Police Station, Jianning Police Station, and Songjiaqiao Police Station dispatched a large number of officers to raid Ms. Liu’s and other local practitioners’ homes.

Ms. Liu was soon released and put under house arrest. The police submitted her case to the Lusong District Procuratorate and took her back into custody on February 10, 2026. At least four other practitioners arrested in the same police sweep in July 2025, including Ms. Liu Chunqin, Ms. Yi Dijun, Mr. Li Qingjun, and Ms. Zheng Qiong, remain detained at the Zhuzhou City Detention Center, where Ms. Liu is likely also being held.

Repeatedly Arrested in the Past; Once Jailed for 7 Years

Prior to her latest persecution episode, Ms. Liu had been repeatedly targeted for her faith, which she credits for curing her congenital heart disease.

In September 1999, two months after the persecution of Falun Gong began, Ms. Liu’s then-employer, the Zhuzhou Smelter Group, dispatched people to raid her home and confiscate her Falun Gong books. The company’s security team seized her on December 21 that year and detained her for 15 days. They came at her again on February 29, 2000, and detained her for another 15 days.

The Zhuzhou City 610 Office agents arrested Ms. Liu on March 14, 2000, and held her in a brainwashing center located in a hotel for three days. Her employer picked her up and took her to another detention location for 15 days. On July 17, 2000, her employer seized her again and detained her for 15 days.

Ms. Liu went to Beijing on December 30, 2000, to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. She was arrested and held in a nursing home in Yanqing District, Beijing. A male officer shocked her all over with an electric baton. She collapsed on the ground.

The Yueyang City Police Department officers arrested Ms. Liu at her rental home in May 2001 and confiscated her Falun Gong books and other valuables. The Shifeng District Police Department agents in Zhuzhou City traveled to Yueyang and took her back. She was put in the Zhuzhou City First Detention Center. For several days straight, the guards did not allow her to sleep and interrogated her nonstop.

The Shifeng District Court sentenced Ms. Liu to seven years at an unknown time, and she was admitted to the Hunan Province Women’s Prison. The guards had inmates monitor her around the clock. They also forced her to do hard labor.

Ms. Liu’s employer had already reduced her pay to as low as 32 yuan per month before her 2001 arrest. They eventually terminated her while she was in jail. She was released in May 2008.
