(Minghui.org) I live in the countryside, and I write Chinese New Year couplets that advise people to be kind, to value tradition, and to be good and moral.

People from nearby cities and towns come to see the couplets and have commended them. Someone said, “Nowadays, there are no spring couplets like those in the stores. Most couplets are about getting rich; they lack substance and don’t even read well. Who would have thought that you could find such good couplets in the countryside? They are about traditional culture and a real breath of fresh air.”

Because I use traditional characters, someone said I was highly educated. I actually had only three years of schooling during the Cultural Revolution. I told people I was reading the book Zhuan Falun, which talks about the structure of the universe, celestial cycles, geography, the origin of the human race, and human thinking. When they heard that, people said it must be a great book.

I also said the book advises people to be good and considerate and that over 100 million people practiced Falun Gong before the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began to persecute it in 1999. In response, someone commented, “So many people practice it. No wonder it is persecuted.”

“Isn’t that irrational?” I asked. When the person replied that the CCP was against heaven and was good at persecuting people, I said, “That’s why one should quit the CCP for a safe future. Recite the phrases ‘Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.’” People who have interacted with me have said that I am kind and that they hope I stay safe.

While clarifying the truth, I have encountered some unexpected things. By studying the Fa and improving my xinxing, I have learned to handle whatever happens with composure and righteous thoughts. For instance, on one occasion at a farmers’ market, I spoke to a woman who nodded repeatedly, expressing her approval as she listened. She agreed to quit the CCP and its affiliated organizations. She then turned to walk away. But after only a few yards, she suddenly spun around and shouted at me, repeating the CCP’s slander about Dafa. Our formerly noisy surroundings suddenly became quiet. People looked at us in astonishment. I was stunned and asked Master in my mind to handle the situation.

I sent righteous thoughts and calmed down. I looked inward and knew that I had done the right thing, so I regained my composure and said with a smile, “You must have misunderstood. I told you to be a kind person and that doing so would bring you blessings. Is it evil to tell you to do good deeds and to cultivate virtue? You lived through the Cultural Revolution and the One Child Policy. Is what the CCP has said and done been good for the common people? Why are you confused?”

She realized that what I had done was for her sake and said, “Thank you. I wasn’t thinking straight. I’m sorry. You are a wonderful person.” She pressed her palms together and bowed to me. And just like that, an awkward situation was resolved. Looking back on it now, I still feel a bit shaken.

In 2014, I started going to other villages with fellow practitioners to raise awareness. My grandson was a year old, so I carried him as I talked to people on the streets and in the lanes.

One time when we went to a village to distribute materials, I was carrying my grandson on my back and holding a bag of materials, so I fell behind. I came upon a small shop, where I saw an angry crowd carrying poles, sticks, and hoes, and I heard someone shout, “Quick! Call the police!” while another yelled, “Beat them up if you catch them!”

I thought I knew what was going on. Since my husband helped look after a timber yard in this area, I’d become somewhat acquainted with the people there, so I walked over and asked, “What on earth has happened?”

One of the men replied, “We want to round up a group of elderly women. They came here to spread a cult. Look—they left piles of DVDs and subversive literature lying around, and they were even telling people to quit the Party and the Youth League. If that’s not subversive, what is?”

As I asked Master in my heart to help me and sent forth righteous thoughts, I said, “A group of elderly women? Is it really worth you young people making such a fuss? Do you really think they could withstand your blows? If someone actually ends up dead, who’s going to be held responsible?

“I know a little about the Falun Gong you mentioned,” I said. “Before the persecution started, many people on my street practiced it. Many of them were ill but recovered after practicing Falun Gong. Their spirits lifted, and they were even able to help with housework and childcare—I witnessed this. This practice truly has the power to cure ailments and improve health, so word spread rapidly—from one person to ten, and from ten to a hundred—and the number of practitioners grew steadily. It was said that more than 100 million people across the country were practicing it. The CCP was intimidated because there were so many people practicing it, so the CCP started the persecution and staged the Tiananmen self-immolation incident to discredit Falun Gong.”

Someone said, “Many people were practicing it, but the CCP says it’s not good.”

I then talked about the CCP’s various political movements that had led to so many deaths, though no one has ever been allowed to say the CCP is bad. They agreed with what I said, and I added, “Practitioners kindly advise people to quit the CCP and its affiliated organizations for a safe future. They only have good intentions. How can you, in good conscience, try to restrain them and beat them? You should thank them.”

Someone suggested playing the DVD to see what it was about, and others agreed, so the shop owner took the DVD with a program about Jiang Zemin, the former head of the CCP who launched the persecution, and played it. They cursed Jiang as they watched it. I said afterward, “Has your resentment subsided yet? You won’t call the police, right? Those practitioners delivered blessings to you. You can share the information among yourselves to read and remember the phrases ‘Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good’ for peace and blessings.”

The shop owner said, “I do thank those practitioners, and I wish them peace.” Others nodded, and tears came to my eyes. When I left, the shop owner gave my grandson some candy to express his appreciation. I said, “You should thank Master Li. Thank you for your kindness.”

I’ve remembered this incident for a long time. Without Dafa, Master, and righteous thoughts, we could have been attacked. Master turned the tide in this instance and helped those people awaken.

We have followed Master for more than 20 years in the Fa-rectification and have experienced countless ups and downs, as well as tribulations. Under Master’s protection, we are still walking the path of saving sentient beings and validating the Fa. Thank you, Master.
