(Minghui.org) According to one of China’s great classics, I Ching (Book of Changes), “A family that accumulates good deeds will receive blessings; a family that accumulates bad deeds will experience misfortune.” Here are several stories from ancient times to the modern era.
Lin Ji, who lived in Youxi County in Fujian Province during the Song Dynasty, was the first person in that county to pass the imperial exam. Some of his experiences were recorded in the Youxi County Annals.
When he traveled to the capital city for the imperial exam, Lin stayed at a hotel in Caizhou (modern-day Henan Province). He found a cloth bag in his room that contained several hundred pearls. He asked the hotel owner who had stayed there the night before and was told it was a merchant.
“The merchant is my friend. If he comes back, please ask him to look for me at the national academy in the capital city,” Lin told the owner. Worried the man might forget, he wrote a note and left it in the room.
The merchant was Zhang Ke, and he did not realize the pearls were missing until he went to trade them in another city. He panicked because these pearls were his family’s assets. He hurried back to the hotel and was told Lin had left him a message.
After Lin confirmed the pearls belonged to Zhang, he handed him the bag. Zhang was very grateful and offered Lin half the pearls. When Lin declined, Zhang sold half of the pearls and used the money to build a temple in Lin’s name. Soon after, Lin passed the imperial exam.
Lin was later appointed judicial commissioner of Xunzhou (modern day Guangdong Province). His supervisor wished to inflate his own accomplishments, so he told Lin to charge some local residents with “piracy” and sentence them. The supervisor promised to promote Lin. Lin rejected the bribe and released these people due to insufficient evidence. The supervisor was later removed from his position. Lin and his two sons later became high officials.
Millennia of upholding morality in China nearly disappeared after the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) took power in 1949. Through its numerous political campaigns, including the Cultural Revolution, the CCP promoted class struggle, brutality, and lies, and discouraged people from practicing their traditional values of honesty and integrity.
Falun Dafa (Falun Gong) was introduced in 1992 and immediately became popular. By following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and doing the exercises, millions of people’s minds and bodies improved, as did society.
The CCP began ruthlessly suppressing Falun Dafa in July 1999. Chifeng, the largest city in Inner Mongolia, was no exception. Yang Chunyue, former police chief of the Songshan District and the 610 Office of Chifeng City, was the mastermind behind every large-scale arrest in the region. Yang instructed the police to arrest anyone, regardless of their gender or age, who practiced Falun Dafa. They were subjected to torture and mental abuse. He shirked responsibility and covered up his crimes.
Thousands of practitioners were arrested, detained, and sentenced to forced labor or prison. Before Yang died in 2014, he personally approved many cases. Six practitioners lost their lives while in police custody. Others were badly tortured and died after they returned home.
After Ms. Zhao Yanxia died in the Chifeng Hongshan District Detention Center, Yang said, “If we torture Falun Dafa practitioners to the point of death or they are already dead, we will send them to prisons, labor camps, or hospitals. After they arrive, their death is announced, and then we won’t be responsible. But if they die in the detention center, we have to prepare paperwork.”
When Falun Dafa informational materials appeared in the Chifeng area in October 2000, police began a large-scale crackdown. More than 50 practitioners were arrested and tortured, including Ms.Yuan Shumei. The police hung her up, repeatedly shocked her with electric batons, and beat her.
One officer, Chai Yusheng, dragged Ms. Yuan to him and kicked her against the wall. He would then drag her back, then kick her against the wall again, specifically targeting her groin while hurling vulgarities. She was deprived of food and sleep. She was only given enough water and food to keep her alive. During her menstrual period, she was not allowed to change her sanitary pads. Her pants were soaked in blood.
Ms. Yuan was tortured like this for seven days and seven nights. Her hair turned white, her body was covered in blood, and she was tortured beyond recognition. She died in the Hohhot Women’s Prison.
Yang was an electrician. He closely followed the CCP and was repeatedly promoted, especially after the suppression of Falun Dafa began. Although he and his family initially enjoyed some benefits, they later met with serious consequences.
On August 28, 2005, Yang Chunyue’s 28-year-old son, Yang Zhihui, drove his car under a truck that was parked on the highway. His skull was bashed in, and he died an instant, gruesome death. The person in the front, passenger seat was unharmed. According to those who attended the son’s funeral, only half his head remained.
After their son died, Yang Chunyue’s wife wept for two weeks and said, “What have we done that caused such a tragedy!” Nearly overcome with grief, she had a mental collapse. Yang himself died of cancer in 2014. Many people felt that what happened to Yang’s family was related to the dozens of innocent lives he took and the numerous family tragedies he caused.
The suppression of Falun Dafa is the largest human rights catastrophe in China. Since July 1999, millions of people have been discriminated against because they practice their faith. Many were arrested, detained, and imprisoned. They were tortured and sent to forced labor, and some were subjected to forced organ harvesting. Due to the systematic cover-up and censorship by the CCP, the actual losses remain unknown.
This persecution has gone on for 27 years. But millions of people, both inside and outside China, remain indifferent and think this has nothing to do with them.
“We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people,” Martin Luther King Jr. wrote.
If more people awaken and take action, we can end this catastrophe. It may be too late when the CCP succeeds in implementing the communist agenda on a global scale. We should heed Dr. King’s words: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
