(Minghui.org) A 72-year-old man in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, continues to be detained following his arrest on March 24, 2026, because he practices Falun Gong.
Mr. Cao Fulin and Ms. Zhong Xiufeng distributed informational materials about Falun Gong at a supermarket in March 2026. They were recorded by the store’s surveillance cameras. They were also reported to the police by someone who was assigned to follow them. Ms. Zhong was arrested on March 23 and released the next day. She is still under close surveillance. Mr. Cao’s family lost contact with him on March 24, and his neighbor reported seeing police raiding his home around 10 a.m. the next day.
The police never notified Mr. Cao’s family of where he was detained or the status of his case. His loved ones think he may have been taken to a brainwashing center in the case processing center of the Yandu District Police Department.
Mr. Cao previously served two five-year prison terms (2010 – 2015 and 2019 – 2024). His wife was forced to divorce him, and their son did not dare contact him.
Mr. Cao was arrested on April 21, 2010. The police beat him so hard that he was unable to move. During his trial on October 26 that year, he testified against the police for injuring him. In response, the judge halted the hearing. In February 2011, someone saw Mr. Cao at the local detention center and noted that he was still limping and he needed help to walk.
Several agents took Mr. Cao out of the detention center around May 2011, likely to attend another hearing. The Yandu District Court sentenced him to five years, and he was admitted to the Hongzehu Prison.
Mr. Cao was arrested again on May 15, 2019, and stood trial on August 20, 2020. He was sentenced to five years on December 25, 2020. The aforementioned Ms. Zhong was also arrested at the same time and sentenced to one year and nine months.
