Double Amputee Secretly Sentenced to Prison for Her Faith in Falun Gong

May 10, 2026 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Jilin Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhang Aimin, who has had both of her legs amputated, is serving time in the Tenth Division of the Jilin Province Women’s Prison, according to a Falun Gong practitioner who was recently released from the prison after serving a wrongful term for her faith.

Ms. Zhang, a 64-year-old former railway worker in Jilin City, Jilin Province, was arrested on April 14, 2025, after officers from the Changyi District Police Department and the Minzhu Police Station broke the lock on her security door with an electric drill. She was likely released on bail that night, but details about her prison sentence, including the length of her sentence, remain unclear.

Taking Up Falun Gong

Ms. Zhang used to suffer many ailments, including a heart condition, hepatitis B, pancreatitis, migraine, neck problems, and a frozen shoulder. After her lower legs were amputated, her thighs were often in pain and had cramps when the weather changed.

Ms. Zhang was in so much pain that she almost took her life. She was living in despair when she came across Falun Gong on June 14, 1997. After finding Falun Gong, Ms. Zhang abandoned the idea of suicide and spent all of her spare time reading Falun Gong’s teachings and doing the exercises. In just three months, every one of her symptoms disappeared. She was grateful for the healing power of Falun Gong.

Past Persecution

On July 20, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party ordered a nationwide persecution of Falun Gong. Ms. Zhang remained firm in her faith and was repeatedly targeted.

In early October 1999, residential committee staffers harassed Ms. Zhang and collected her personal information. Starting in mid-October 1999, the residential committee director harassed her every day, until she was forced to turn in her copy of Zhuan Falun, the main text of Falun Gong. Overnight, all her old ailments flared up.

In December 1999, Ms. Zhang went to Beijing with two other practitioners to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong, only to be arrested and taken to the Jilin City Liaison Office in Beijing. The other two practitioners, including Ms. Ji Guizhi, a retired teacher in her late 50s, were strip-searched. Ms. Zhang wasn’t required to remove her clothes, but was forced to pay the Jilin police 330 yuan for their “return trip to Jilin.”

After she was brought back to Jilin City, the police interrogated Ms. Zhang in a dark room and took her home in the evening. The police extorted another 2,000 yuan from her family and withheld 1,200 yuan from her salary, to pay for her own “return trip expenses.” The other two practitioners were taken to the local lockup.

Ms. Zhang managed to return to Beijing in September 2000 by herself. She shouted “Falun Dafa is good” on Tiananmen Square.

She returned home on October 4, 2000. Ten days later, nearly 20 police officers broke into her home and took her to the police station. Her Falun Gong books and photo of Falun Gong’s founder were confiscated. Ms. Zhang held a two-day hunger strike in protest and was then transferred to a brainwashing center for an unknown amount of time.

She was arrested again at home around midnight on September 16, 2003, after the Jilin City 610 Office and Yan’an Street Police Station officers hired a locksmith to open her door. Her Falun Gong books, DVDs, computer, and printer were confiscated. These items were worth over 8,000 yuan. Several officers stayed at her residence until the following afternoon in case other practitioners came to visit her.

Ms. Zhang accompanied two practitioners, Ms. Liu Huili and Fang (last name unknown), to the Yongji Police Station in the nearby Huadian City on January 18, 2016, demanding that the police return their personal property confiscated during earlier raids. All three practitioners were arrested. Ms. Zhang and Ms. Liu were released that night. Fang was released the following afternoon.

Ms. Zhang was arrested yet another time on October 18, 2016, with Ms. Wang Manru, when they were talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. The police hit Ms. Zhang’s mobility scooter repeatedly until it broke. They carried both practitioners into a police cruiser, took them to the police station, and detained them overnight.
