June 12, 2026 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Sichuan Province, China

(Minghui.org) Since Mr. Zhang Jun started to practice Falun Gong in 2010, he has been twice imprisoned for a total of six and a half years. The Nanchong City, Sichuan Province, resident was arrested again on May 7, 2026, after being reported for talking to a military officer about Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.

Mr. Zhang is now facing prosecution again, after the Gaoping District Procuratorate approved his arrest on May 13.

Two Prior Prison Sentences

Mr. Zhang was first arrested on April 18, 2014, for distributing Falun Gong materials with another practitioner, Mr. Ming Shaolin. Both of them were beaten and interrogated at the local police station. Mr. Ming was hit on the head, slapped in the face, kicked in his abdomen and on his feet, and struck with a rod for over an hour.

After they were taken to the Nanchong City Detention Center, both men held hunger strikes to protest the torture. They were then beaten with a rubber club and force-fed.

Both Mr. Zhang and Mr. Ming were sentenced to four years by the Jialing District Court on October 8, 2014. Mr. Zhang was taken to the Jiazhou Prison on February 4, 2015. He was forced to work long hours without pay. If he failed to finish the quota, the guards would torturM     him in the evening.

The police continued to harass Mr. Zhang after he was released on October 18, 2017.

A group of officers went to the home of Mr. Zhang’s mother on August 22, 2018. As she was not in, they took pictures of the outside of her residence and came back in the afternoon to ask about Mr. Zhang’s whereabouts.

Mr. Zhang was arrested on November 30, 2019. He was sentenced to 2.5 years and fined 5,000 yuan on September 7, 2020, by the Shunqing District Court, on charges of “undermining law enforcement,” a standard pretext used by the communist regime to imprison Falun Gong practitioners.

Mr. Zhang appealed to the Nanchong City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold his verdict on November 14, 2020.

Mr. Zhang was admitted to the Ninth Division of the Jiazhou Prison in early January 2021, and was released on May 28, 2022.
