“State Organs” Screening and “Killed to Order” Book Talk at Toronto City Hall Draws Attention to CCP’s Forced Organ Harvesting

June 2, 2026 |   By Minghui correspondents in Toronto, Canada

(Minghui.org) A screening of the documentary State Organs: Unmasking Transplant Abuse in China, a book talk for New York Times best-selling author Jan Jekielek’s new book, Killed to Order: China’s Organ Harvesting Industry and the True Nature of America’s Biggest Adversary, and a Q&A were held at Toronto City Hall on May 27, 2026.

Many audience members said they were shocked by the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting revealed in the documentary, and they urged that action be taken to raise awareness and stop the CCP from trampling on human rights.

Jan Jekielek’s book, which was released in March, compiles 20 years of evidence from independent investigations that expose the CCP’s industrial-scale practice of forced organ harvesting, how it became an industry of about $9 billion, and how the West became complicit.

Informing people in the West about the true nature of the CCP, at a time when countries like Canada are seeking to be closer to the regime, is what motivated Mr. Jekielek to write the book.

He noted Ottawa signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation between the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) and China’s Ministry of Public Security, which he said is “very serious” because the CCP “totally disregards the basic dignity of human life.

“It’s really shocking that the state security of a totalitarian regime would have a memorandum of understanding with a police force or security agency in a democratic country,” Mr. Jekielek said, adding that such a deal “doesn’t really make any sense” and threatens local communities.

He said it is clear to him that people in Canada, including politicians, do not understand the true nature of the CCP. He warned that the CCP views countries like Canada not as partners, but as adversaries, and has a “zero-sum” way of thinking with the long-term aim of making Western democracies vassal states.

He reflected on how public receptivity has changed since he began speaking about the issue of China’s forced organ harvesting industry in 2006. He said at first, people refused to believe it and mentally checked out mid-conversation.

But now, Mr. Jekielek said, people’s response has shifted. He partially credited the shift in people’s thinking to the COVID-19 pandemic, noting there was a “totalitarian impulse on our own society,” which he said educated Western people more about the nature of the CCP.

Thought-Provoking and Shocking

After he watched the documentary, Steven Riddiough, an Associate Professor of Finance at the University of Toronto, said that although he had heard of organ harvesting before, he did not have a deep understanding of the underlying circumstances in China, and found it to be very thought-provoking and extremely shocking.

He said he hopes to learn more about Falun Gong and think about how to take action. He pointed out that Mr. Jekielek mentioned the importance of raising public awareness and said he thought this might be one of the most important and powerful ways to facilitate change. He said he felt that people generally have not realized this problem, possibly both here and in China.

Mr. Riddiough learned about Falun Gong’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance while watching the documentary. He said that these principles are the core of the major religious faiths and many ways of life, and that is why he thought suppressing these principles is very scary. He said he’s seen Falun Gong practitioners’ events in many places and that he looked forward to learning more about Falun Gong after watching the documentary.

Something Everyone Should Care About

Sandy (Minghui.org)

Sandy thanked the event organizer after the screening. She said she’s very interested in human rights and had some prior knowledge of live organ harvesting, and that this is an issue she wanted to explore further because she believes this is something everyone should care about and be passionate about.

Sandy mentioned that it saddened her that the Chinese people are suffering such hardship and that the CCP does not care about or have sympathy for lives at all, which further made her want to stand up and speak out about this issue, which is something she believed everyone should realize. She hoped more would advocate for kindness and compassion for all beings, whether humans or animals. She also said she has a social media account to spread the truth and that she would discuss this issue to let more people know, and that after watching the documentary, she felt motivated.

The Falun Gong’s principles, she said, resonated with her, and the only way to change society is through honesty, kindness, and virtue. The battle between good and evil is taking place now, and the evil is attacking people’s thoughts and souls. She believed that when people have truth and kindness, they are standing on the divine side and on the right path of history, which will change the world.
