(Minghui.org) A mother and daughter who both live in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, are being held at the Shenyang City First Detention Center for their faith in Falun Gong.
Ms. Zhang Yun, 82, was arrested on June 3, 2026. Her daughter, Ms. Dong Mei, 57, then suddenly stopped responding to friends. Minghui.org confirmed recently that she too had been arrested.
Ms. Zhang took up Falun Gong in 1995 and recovered from numerous diseases, including pulmonary tuberculosis, pleural effusion, lumbar muscle strain, tachycardia, anemia, neurosis, and insomnia. Ms. Dong started to practice the next year and saw her stubborn skin disease gone. As an accountant, she never cooked the books and always maintained her integrity.
After the communist regime launched a nationwide campaign against Falun Gong in July 1999, the mother and daughter held firm to their faith and were repeatedly targeted. Prior to their latest persecution episodes, Ms. Dong served two labor camp terms totaling at least three years between October 1999 and December 2003.
Ms. Dong and Ms. Zhang were arrested together on December 4, 2019. While Ms. Zhang was released on December 20, 2019, Ms. Dong was sentenced to two years and released from the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison on December 3, 2021.
Ms. Zhang was briefly detained again in August and December 2020. The Yuhong District Court sentenced her to three years on December 24, 2020, and she was admitted to the Liaoning Province Second Women’s Prison afterwards. She finished serving time on December 22, 2023.
Ms. Zhang’s health declined amid the relentless persecution. She is blind in one eye and sees poorly out of her left. Her family is very worried about her following her latest arrest.
