[Celebrating World Falun Dafa Day] A Letter to Chairman of the Board

June 9, 2026 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in China

(Minghui.org) I am a female Falun Gong (also called Falun Dafa) practitioner. I work in a large company with many branches in different locations. Below is a letter I wrote to the chairman of the board before the most recent Chinese New Year. He had asked me to do a presentation about an urgent task. On the last slide of my PowerPoint presentation, I wrote, “My work may lack the spotlight, but it empowers others to shine, and I think that is great!” After reading those words, he was deeply moved and repeatedly said he wanted to give me a bonus. I said to him, “There’s no need. My salary is already more than enough.” He later gave me a bonus anyway.

After the presentation, I asked the chairman of the board, “Do you know that I practice Falun Gong? Falun Gong is being persecuted, and what is shown on television about Falun Gong is all false.” He replied, “Yes, I do know. Just don’t talk about it publicly ...” I gave him a small USB drive and told him that it contained a letter to him about my personal stories and asked him to take a look. He agreed. Besides this letter, the USB drive also contained some truth-clarification videos and e-books. For safety reasons, I have slightly modified this letter and pasted it below.

Dear Chairman of the Board,

I feel very honored to have become a member of this company. There are some thoughts I would like to share with you. You may have heard that I am a Falun Gong practitioner. Falun Gong has been slandered and persecuted in China. Here, I would like to tell you my personal stories.

In the spring of 1998, I was fortunate enough to read Zhuan Falun for the first time. This book answered questions that had puzzled me since childhood. “Since people are born into this world only to die eventually, what is the purpose of striving throughout one’s life? Why do people become ill? Science is so advanced, yet why are some illnesses still incurable, and why do even more serious diseases continue to emerge? Where do illnesses come from? Can their source be found so that they no longer arise?” The book also provided answers to many of the world’s greatest mysteries. From the book, I also learned that the universe has the characteristics of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, and that only by following these principles can one move toward goodness. From that point on, I held myself to strict standards. My parents said I seemed like a completely different person.

Before practicing, I had been extremely domineering. In the third year of middle school, I had lifted a boy’s desk and slammed it onto the floor, and even beat him until he cried. I then attended a key provincial high school. Despite the strict discipline, I was still the student who caused the teachers the most trouble. They tried every method imaginable to keep me under control, making me sit on the podium and stand facing the wall. They placed a desk for me in the office so I could study there, and finally seated me behind the toughest boy in the class. In the end, even that boy could no longer tolerate me and complained to the homeroom teacher, “Please move her somewhere else. She keeps poking me with a needle from behind.” At that time, I felt that no one in the world could control me.

After I read Zhuan Falun, I was deeply shaken. I came to understand that life in the universe has standards, and I must no longer continue behaving recklessly. I wanted to become the best person I could be and continue to improve. I began helping my parents with chores, studying diligently at school, and working conscientiously. Through continuously studying the Fa and cultivating my xinxing, my rebellious nature gradually changed.

My Graduate School Experience

More than 20 years ago, I took the graduate school entrance examination for the first time. I applied to a flagship program at a research institute under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. I scored more than 350 points on the written examination and was invited for an interview. A professor there told us, “Our institute grades very strictly. A score of 350 here would be equivalent to 370 at other universities. Anyone invited for an interview will be admitted. Those with lower passing scores have already been transferred to other schools.” Before the interview, I spoke with several other candidates, and quite a few of them were from Tsinghua University.

During the interview, I told the panel, “I believe that a person should strive to be good. That means that at home, one should be a good child; at school, a good student; in a company, a good employee. I will devote myself wholeheartedly to doing everything I should do well.” This was the understanding I had gained after one year of studying the Fa.

After returning from the interview, I told my elder cousin, “I don’t know whether I’ll pass the interview or not. Can you please help me contact another university?” But my cousin believed that once I had reached the interview stage, I would certainly be admitted. However, in the end, I was not accepted. A professor from the institute called to apologize, “Because of a policy mistake at the institute, 20 students could not be admitted. By the time we tried contacting other universities, all the available places had already been filled ...” He kept apologizing to me.

I went to find my cousin and learned that he also didn’t contact another university for me. Feeling guilty, he offered me 10,000 yuan [$1,478] and said he could use his connections to get me into a university. He said, “Given our relationship with that university, we could easily eliminate another candidate by claiming that he or she failed the interview and give the place to you instead.”

I replied, “There’s no need. If the university has an available place, I’ll go. If there are no places left, I cannot take someone’s place. I am a Dafa cultivator. I cannot do such a thing.”

I had sacrificed a great deal in preparation for graduate school admission, and now I had failed. I lay on my bed in deep pain. I then thought, “I should study the Fa.” I picked up Zhuan Falun and began reading. After a while, my heart became clear and open. My attachment to fame and personal gain seemed to vanish all at once. I felt light, relaxed, and at peace. I wrote a letter to the professor who called me, “Please don’t feel bad. This is not your fault. Please arrange placements for the other students first and leave me until last. I practice Falun Gong, so I should be considerate. Besides, I can accept this and let it go.”

My father had initially worried about whether I could endure the setback, but when he saw how quickly I had emerged from the disappointment, he told me, “You should thank Falun Gong for helping you get through this. One of my classmates lost his university place because someone else took it and he ended up developing a mental illness.”

Three years later, I applied again and was admitted to another institute under the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the same field. My total score ranked first among all science candidates at the institute.

My Two Marriages

When I married my first husband, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) had already begun its full-scale persecution of Falun Gong. He was aware that I practiced Falun Gong before we got married. He liked me a lot and believed that after we married, he would be able to persuade me to give up the practice. But I endured the pressure and remained steadfast in cultivating. Because I would not abandon my faith, he divorced me.

His parents were very poor. When we bought our home, most of the money came from my side of the family. By the time we divorced, the value of the house had risen from a little over 70,000 yuan to 400,000 yuan. Logically, the house should have been divided equally between us. If I kept the house, I should have paid him 200,000 yuan; if he kept the house, he should have paid me 200,000 yuan. However, he kept the home, and he did not have the money to give me. In the end, I only recovered the amount that my family had originally contributed when we bought the home. He said, “I even gave you an extra 5,000 yuan.” I said, “I didn’t even ask for the 200,000 yuan. Why would I care about your extra 5,000?” Only someone who truly cultivates Falun Gong can let go of money so completely and be genuinely considerate.

A few days ago, my mother called me and said, “Housing prices around here have dropped sharply. I think someday they may fall all the way back to what they were when you bought that home.” When I heard that, I thought to myself, “Fortunately, I never asked him for 200,000 yuan. Otherwise, I would have taken advantage of him. How could I have lived with my conscience?”

Two years after the divorce, I married my current husband. He had once practiced Falun Gong just as I did. He was a very good person—selfless and considerate of others.

One day, I went to visit a fellow practitioner in a labor camp who had been persecuted to the brink of death. As a result, I was arrested, and my home was illegally searched. The authorities planned to sentence me to seven years in prison.

Because I was pregnant, my husband decided to accept the charges for everything himself. He was persecuted in a labor camp for one year. The labor camp was extremely evil. They encouraged criminal inmates to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. After he returned from the labor camp, he stopped studying the Fa and doing the exercises. He also began playing mahjong. Whenever he was in a bad mood, he would beat me and often leave me with bruises. On one occasion, he even fractured my bones. He beat me like this for 10 years.

I knew that this was not his true nature. The persecution of Falun Gong by the CCP had caused it. I remained by his side, forgave him, and hoped that he would return to cultivation, because only the power of Falun Gong could fundamentally change him. But he did not improve. Eventually, I could no longer bear it, and I felt I had completely lost hope in him. I decided to divorce him.

When I told him this, he was devastated, and it drove him to start buying lottery tickets. He spent all of our savings, maxed out his credit cards, and even borrowed money from loan sharks. Our family accumulated debts of several hundred thousand yuan just like that. When I learned what had happened, I was dumbfounded. I thought about divorce, because if I left, I would no longer have to shoulder that enormous debt.

But I remembered Master’s teaching,

“You should always be benevolent and kind to others and consider others when doing anything. Whenever you encounter a problem you should first consider whether others can put up with this matter or if it will hurt anyone. In doing so, there will not be any problems. Therefore, in cultivation, you should follow a higher and higher standard for yourself.” (Lecture Four, Zhuan Falun)

I thought to myself, “If I took our child and left him, everyone would understand. But what would happen to him? He would have lost his wife and child, and have no money—how could he bear it?”

I began looking inward. I had looked down on him all these years. He for certain had sensed it, and naturally, he would not have been happy. That was my fault. Marriage is sacred. How could I have thoughts of divorcing him? Although he had continued to beat me over the years, I should never forget the year of wrongful imprisonment that he endured because of me. How could I divorce him? There is an ancient saying, “A drop of kindness should be repaid with a spring of gratitude,” not to mention that I’m a Falun Gong practitioner. I must only try to understand him and help save him. He had started buying lottery tickets because he was unhappy. Otherwise, who would deliberately ruin his own life? As I continued searching inward, I came to feel that it was my fault, and my resentment toward him disappeared.

In the days that followed, he just lay in bed and refused to eat or drink. Faced with the crushing debt, he decided to starve himself to death. Although I had no idea how we would ever repay such a large debt, I told him, “Who goes through life without making mistakes? Don’t take it so hard. Let’s just treat it as if we’re paying off a mortgage, or as if we invested in a business that failed. As long as you stop making mistakes, we’ll repay the debt together.” Every day, I encouraged him. Finally, one day he said, “Please prepare some food for me to eat.” Tears filled my eyes. He had finally changed his mind.

After that, he began looking for a job. He tried several things, and eventually, he found a job doing testing work at the same company as me. My salary covered our living expenses, while his salary went entirely toward repaying the debt. I also persuaded him to sell our newer home and buy an old 50-square-meter [538 square feet] apartment instead.

Later, when I was working in the provincial capital and he no longer had a job, everything I earned beyond our living expenses went toward paying off the debt. Not long ago, I saw that there were 30,000 yuan [$4,434] remaining unpaid. I remembered that I could withdraw money from my housing provident fund in the provincial capital. When I checked the account, there were exactly 30,000 yuan in the fund. So we paid the debt off in full. We were both very happy. At last, we were free of debt.

A marriage that has endured hardship together is worth cherishing. My husband was deeply moved by everything I had done for him. He said, “I used to think, ‘How did I end up with such a terrible wife?’ Now I realize that cultivation has truly changed you. You’ve become such a good person. I want to return to cultivation as well.”

After he resumed studying the Fa, he once again began holding himself to the standards of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. He stopped playing mahjong. He became the same person I had first met—selfless and kind. Our marriage also became peaceful and harmonious.

If I had not practiced Falun Gong, I could never have survived these tribulations. In the end, I might have become a bitter and resentful woman filled with hatred, or perhaps I would have divorced him long ago. We even bought a small used car recently. Falun Gong has saved our family.

My Work

At work, I try my best to meet the high standards of Falun Gong. Because I have long been responsible for controlling the purchasing of raw materials, suppliers tend to see me as someone who has some power. In the early days, when I worked for another company, a supplier tried to give me a red envelope during the Chinese New Year. I refused it and told him, “I practice Falun Gong. I do not accept gifts.” Many years later, when he saw me again, he told me, “Back when I was in the provincial capital, I saw police arresting Falun Gong practitioners. I told them, ‘What’s wrong with Falun Gong? Every year when I give red envelopes, everyone accepts them except Falun Gong practitioners.’” Several years ago, when our company in the provincial capital purchased large-scale equipment, I was also the one responsible for evaluating suppliers. One supplier wanted to transfer 5,000 yuan [$739] to me, and I again refused it.

In May and June of this year, I was working at the headquarters. My husband was not home, and my son was preparing for the high school entrance examination and needed someone to take care of him. I needed to take some extended leave from work and wanted to return to my hometown to find a job so that I could look after my son. A former colleague told me, “Don’t tell your boss. Find another job first, and then submit your resignation. Otherwise, you might leave yourself with no way out.”

I thought of Master’s teaching,

“With everything you should think of others—first think about others, and then think about yourself.” (Teachings at the Conference in Australia)

I felt that I must inform the company first. This position was very important, and I was the only person handling it. If I suddenly announced my resignation, even if I followed the legal procedure and gave the company a month to arrange a transition, it still would not be enough time. If the company suffered losses, it would affect many people. As a practitioner, I could not do that. So I went to the operations director and explained my family situation and my plans honestly and completely. When one is truly considerate, he is open-minded and at peace.

An Invitation from a Former Employer

Seven years ago, I was working for a company in my county, and I had a bad accident. It was late in the evening after I had finished working overtime, and when I rode my electric scooter home, a small stone on the ground caused me to crash. I fell hard and suffered a comminuted fracture of my right knee. Because the accident occurred on my way home from work and was caused by me, it did not qualify as a workplace injury under the law, and there was no compensation available. But my boss wanted to help me and asked me to tell the investigators that I had been injured at work. I said, “We follow Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. I cannot lie. It’s indeed not a workplace injury, and so I cannot take the compensation.”

I did not undergo surgery on my leg. Because of our debts, I could not afford surgery at the time. I just did the Falun Gong exercises, and my leg recovered. My husband’s relatives were terrified. One of them said, “If you don’t have surgery and end up crippled, who will take care of you?” But through doing the exercises, my leg really did recover. Many people witnessed this amazing thing.

My boss thought highly of my character and allowed me to participate in the company’s confidential technical work. After I left and moved to the provincial capital for another job, he repeatedly invited me back. He even told me, “Whenever you decide to return to the county, you can come and work for me anytime.”

During that same period, the owner of another company where I had previously worked also kept calling me, hoping that I would join her company. The compensation package she offered was extremely generous and even included shares of the company. Unable to refuse her sincerity altogether, I went to meet her in person and told her, “I’m working for a company in the provincial capital now, and I’ve just helped them purchase equipment worth more than 1 million yuan [$147,806]. If I leave at this moment, it would really put them in a terrible situation, and I simply cannot do that.”

Other people offered me suggestions. They said I could just claim there was some family emergency, and then my employer would understand. I did not take any of these suggestions. I must conduct myself according to the standards of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. I have to be considerate, and I cannot lie to others.

After restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic were lifted, the vast majority of my coworkers became infected. I did not become infected, and I even helped deliver medicine to my coworkers. At that time, my husband had not yet resumed his cultivation. He became infected at home, and I went back to take care of him. We ate from the same plate, yet I remained unaffected.

Why could it be so miraculous? Because through cultivation, I came to understand where illness originates. By living in accordance with the universe’s characteristics of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, striving to be a good person, and continually improving my moral character, I would naturally have good health, and illnesses could no longer affect me.

Final Remarks

As chairman of the board, you have devoted your life to the cause of human health. I sincerely recommend that you read Zhuan Falun. This is not an ordinary book. It is a book that guides people in cultivation and self-improvement, and it will certainly provide inspiration for both your life and your career. Outside China, many people who practice Falun Gong are scholars with advanced degrees. They are educated, knowledgeable, and thoughtful individuals.

Since ancient times, righteous faith has been one of the most important foundations for maintaining moral standards in human society. Throughout history, Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism flourished side by side in China and helped create a brilliant Chinese civilization. But after the CCP came to power, it sought to eliminate people’s faith in divine beings. It encouraged people to struggle against heaven and earth. Without spiritual principles to guide them, morality among Chinese people has declined rapidly.

The CCP has made people within its system even worse because they have no faith and therefore no inner moral restraint. For the sake of money and personal enjoyment, they engage in corruption, abuse power, and even take lives. In reality, whether one believes it or not, the principle that good will be rewarded and evil will meet with retribution is an unchanging law of heaven. Why have so many officials who were involved in persecuting Falun Gong fallen from power one after another? It is because this heavenly principle is being fulfilled. A Chinese nation with 5,000 years of civilization has been damaged beyond recognition by the CCP. If you wish to understand the true history of the CCP, I recommend reading Nine Commentaries of the Communist Party.

In 1992, Mr. Li Hongzhi introduced Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, to the public in Changchun City, Jilin Province. It is a high-level cultivation practice. Since it was first introduced, it has helped people regain their faith, improve their health, and elevate their moral character. Today, it has spread to more than 100 countries around the world, and Zhuan Falun has been translated into more than 50 languages.

Why are there so many disasters facing humanity today? It is because human morality has declined. Why do we say that Falun Gong is saving people in this final age? Because Falun Gong genuinely elevates people’s moral character while also improving their health. Throughout history, governments and individuals who persecuted righteous faiths have never met good ends. Ancient Rome persecuted Christians and ultimately collapsed amid devastating plagues. The CCP, like ancient Rome, has committed unforgivable crimes by slandering and persecuting Falun Gong and will ultimately face elimination.

The CCP has bound the Chinese people to itself by requiring them to swear that they will dedicate their lives to the CCP when joining the CCP, the Communist Youth League, or the Young Pioneers. We encourage people to withdraw from those organizations. This will allow them to separate themselves from the CCP and safely pass through future calamities. This is intended to help save good people and has nothing to do with politics. Cultivators have no desire whatsoever to obtain political power.

My letter has already become very long, yet there is still much that cannot be fully explained. If you are interested, I would be happy to give you a copy of Zhuan Falun so that you can learn what Falun Gong truly is. This USB drive also contains films, videos, and e-books that can help you gain a thorough understanding of the facts. If you travel abroad, I recommend attending a performance by Shen Yun Performing Arts, a worldwide touring production dedicated to reviving traditional Chinese culture.

Over the years, my graduate advisor and the owners of the various companies where I have worked have, for the most part, been very good people. After learning the facts about Falun Gong, many of them made efforts to protect me, which deeply moved me. They have all been blessed as a result. Some were elected academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; others saw their children achieve exceptional success and enjoyed happy, harmonious families. Of course, from time to time I also encountered people who reported me for their own personal benefit.

As I conclude this letter, I would like to tell you that at the New Year’s celebration in 2023, when I met you for the first time, I immediately felt that you were someone that I had a predestined connection. Because of that feeling, I have taken considerable personal risk to tell you these things. I sincerely hope that you will carefully read this letter and the informational materials I have provided. They concern your career, your family, and even your life. After you have understood them, please consider sharing them with your relatives and friends, because I hope that all good people can enjoy happiness and safety.

Best regards,

Your Employee
