(Minghui.org) The Luannan County Court in Hebei Province sentenced two locals for practicing Falun Gong, Minghui.org learned recently.
Ms. Pan Surong, born in August 1964, was arrested by two plainclothes officers on February 9, 2025, while she was talking to people about Falun Gong at a plaza. Her home was raided. After three days of detention at a local police station, she was transferred to the Tangshan City First Detention Center. Tangshan oversees Luannan County.
Ms. Pan appeared in the Luannan County Court on June 26, 2025. She was sentenced to one year and nine months at an unknown time. She is currently held in Division Five of the Hebei Province Women’s Prison.
Ms. Pan was previously detained for five days after being arrested on May 31, 2024. Her husband, Mr. Jiang Shuncai, was also repeatedly arrested for practicing Falun Gong. He died at an unknown time after years of persecution.
Mr. Jiang Shunbao, born in November 1955, was home on the morning of February 8, 2025, when captain Bi Dajun from the Luannan County Domestic Security Office led officers from the Tangshan City Domestic Security Office in a break-in. They interrogated him at the Luannan County Domestic Security Office before allowing him to return home for lunch. They took him back into custody in the afternoon for another round of interrogation. He refused to reveal the source of Falun Gong materials found in his home.
The police put Mr. Jiang at the Luannan County Detention Center. He was tried by the Luannan County Court on August 6, 2025, and sentenced to one and a half years at an unknown time. He is currently serving time at the Fourth Branch of Jidong Prison, also known as the Jidong Branch of the Hebei Provincial Prison Administration Bureau. Located in Tangshan City, Jidong Prison has nine branches and Falun Gong practitioners are currently imprisoned in the First, Second, Fourth, and Fifth Branches.
Mr. Jiang used to suffer from a severe medical condition. Every time he had an episode, he would experience dry mouth and tongue, nausea, bad breath, vomiting, cold sweats, and limb weakness. He had to stay in bed for one or two days before his symptoms subsided. After he took up Falun Gong in October 1998, his condition disappeared, and he was full of energy again.
Mr. Jiang held firm to his faith after the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999. Prior to his latest persecution episode, he was arrested at home on January 13, 2025, by agents from the Luannan County Domestic Security Office. His Falun Gong books and informational materials, as well as a portrait of the founder of Falun Gong, were confiscated. His wife and their five guests were also arrested and held in custody until 7 p.m. the next day. He was detained for 10 days and released on January 23.
