73-Year-Old Cancer-Stricken Woman Imprisoned for Practicing Falun Gong

July 14, 2026 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Jilin Province, China

(Minghui.org) A 73-year-old woman in Jilin City, Jilin Province, was taken into custody on June 13, 2026, to serve a one-year prison term she was given in 2024 because she practices Falun Gong, despite her cancer diagnosis and other medical conditions.

Ms. Wang Lihua was initially arrested on June 4, 2023, while reading Falun Gong books at another practitioner’s home. She stood trial at the Changyi District Court on May 22, 2024, and was sentenced to one year in prison at an unknown date.

Ms. Wang remained out on bail after she was convicted. The police notified her daughter on March 3, 2025, that they planned to take her for a physical exam the next day. If she was deemed fit for detention, she would be taken back into custody.

The checkup results showed an 18-cm cancerous tumor on Ms. Wang’s liver. Since she was also found to have high blood pressure, the doctors advised against surgery to remove the tumor.

The police ignored the results of the medical exam, and took Ms. Wang to the Jilin City Detention Center. The guards declined to admit her after seeing her health reports.

The police sent Ms. Wang home but they notified her on March 7, 2025, that they were coming on April 14 to take her to Jilin Province Women’s Prison.

To avoid being jailed, Ms. Wang was forced to live away from home. She fell down the stairs and broke her leg in March 2026. Even though she had difficulty walking, the police arrested her on June 13, 2026, and took her to the hospital for a physical exam the next day. The detention center doctor ignored her cancer diagnosis and admitted her on June 15.
