(Minghui.org) A 67-year-old retired teacher in Junan County, Shandong Province, was sentenced to one year with a 5,000-yuan fine on June 23, 2026, because she practices Falun Gong.
The wrongful conviction of Ms. Wan Xuxin stemmed from her initial arrest on October 17, 2024. Five officers from the Junan County Domestic Security Office and the Chengbei Police Station broke into her home around 7 a.m. that day. She was not in, and they went to her other residence and seized her there. After raiding the place, they brought her back to her current home and confiscated all her Falun Gong books and informational materials, as well as a music player.
The police took pictures of Ms. Xu right next to the confiscated items before driving her to the Chengbei Police Station. They released her on bail after 5 p.m. Two hours later, the local village committee called to say that they’d come and bring her to the Junan County Second People’s Hospital for a physical exam.
After 7 a.m. the next day, the village committee staffers went to Ms. Xu’s home and brought her to the hospital against her will. After the checkup, she was taken to the local comprehensive management office. The head there notified her that they’d take her to Linyi City (which oversees Junan County) “for a study session” for five days.
A group of people went to Ms. Xu’s home at 6 a.m. on November 20, 2024, and drove her to the Mengyin Brainwashing Center in Linyi City. A bit past 3 p.m. that day, she was forced to watch videos that defame Falun Gong.
It was unclear when Ms. Xu was released from the brainwashing center. The Chengbei Police Station summoned her on July 1, 2025, to verify information about her 2024 arrests. She was let go afterwards.
The Junan County Procuratorate summoned Ms. Xu on August 28, 2025. They ordered her to sign her case file and asked if she planned to hire a lawyer. They also said they’d transfer the case to the Linshu County Procuratorate. Linshu County is also under the administration of Linyi City.
The Linshu County Procuratorate summoned Ms. Wan on May 9, 2026. The Linshu County Court called her family on May 25, asking them to pick up her indictment the next day.
Ms. Wan went to the court on May 26. Presiding Judge Wang interrogated her and ordered her to sign the case file. She refused, and Wang said she could just write “I refused to sign my name.” She believed her and wrote those words.
As soon as Ms. Wan finished writing, a group of officers from the Junan County Domestic Security Office suddenly came out of nowhere and seized her. They took her straight to the Linyin City Detention Center.
Ms. Wan stood trial on June 15. Judge Wang announced a guilty verdict against her during the sentencing hearing on June 23. Prosecutor Hu Xiao (+86-13853960810), assistant judges Li Zhengye and Teng Lina, as well as clerk Xu Chenxi, also signed the verdict.
