Sichuan Woman Drugged and Denied Personal Hygene While Serving Wrongful Term for Her Faith

Aug. 14, 2026

(Minghui.org) A 54-year-old woman in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province was subjected to brutal torture while serving time for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Luo Yi was arrested on May 24, 2023, by officers from the Yunxi Police Station. She was sentenced to two years and eight months by the Wenjiang District Court on July 25, 2024, and admitted to the Chengdu Women’s Prison on January 15, 2025.

As soon as Ms. Luo was jailed, the prison guards ordered her to write statements renouncing Falun Gong. She refused to comply, and her food rations were reduced for three days. She experienced heart palpitations and a burning sensation in her chest. She suspected that the meager amount of food given to her was laced with toxic drugs. This suspicion was confirmed when someone saw an inmate squeeze paste from a tube into Ms. Luo’s food and water.

Ms. Luo began a hunger strike on the fourth day. She occasionally ate a little food, but still experienced heart palpitations. After four months, her weight dropped by over 44 pounds.

After Ms. Luo resumed normal eating, the guards ordered her to take unknown drugs under the pretext that she had high blood pressure. She refused, but the guards insisted on regularly measuring her blood pressure. After each measurement, she felt extremely uncomfortable, with heart palpitations and a burning sensation in her chest.

During her hunger strike, the guards also forced Ms. Luo to sit motionless on a small stool for many hours, often while watching propaganda videos that smeared Falun Gong. She had to keep her legs closed and her back straight. Three inmates, including Wei Min, Jiang Li, and Yan Yang, were assigned to watch her. These inmates actively tortured practitioners in exchange for reduced sentences. Whenever Ms. Luo moved or failed to maintain the required posture, the inmates beat her.

The guards also restricted Ms. Luo’s basic needs, especially by giving her very little to no toilet paper. She also wasn’t allowed to wash herself, even after having diarrhea. The guards once barred her from showering for a month. She smelled very bad, and her hair was matted. Only after her daughter filed a complaint was she allowed to shower again.
