(Minghui.org) A 63-year-old man in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, was sentenced to one year on August 18, 2026, for raising awareness of the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing persecution of his faith, Falun Gong. Mr. Wang Yujie has filed an appeal.
Mr. Wang was arrested on January 6, 2026, after he was followed by officers from the Heping District Domestic Security Office and Hunhewan Police Station. They took him home around noon to conduct a house raid. They handcuffed him and kept him outside during the raid. None of the officers wore their police uniform, nor did they produce their ID’s or a search warrant. Mr. Wang’s two computers, printer, office supplies, Falun Gong books, and informational materials were confiscated. His wife was forced to sign the list of confiscated items.
The police claimed someone reported Mr. Wang on December 28, 2025, for putting Falun Gong informational materials on car windshields. They detained him at the Heping District Detention Center and denied his family’s request to release him on bail.
Mr. Wang was issued a formal arrest warrant on February 13, 2026, by the Hunnan District Procuratorate, which has been designated to handle Falun Gong cases in the greater Shenyang region. Prosecutor He Mengyao, who has indicted numerous practitioners, was assigned to the case.
The police questioned Mr. Wang’s wife about his daily activities and how many times he went out each day. They submitted the case to prosecutor He on April 10, 2026.
Mr. Wang’s lawyer submitted a request to drop the case, but prosecutor He still indicted Mr. Wang and forwarded the case to the Hunnan District Court on July 2, 2026.
Judge Hao Xiaoli held a hearing on August 4, 2026. Mr. Wang testified in his own defense. He acknowledged that he did distribute Falun Gong informational materials, but he broke no law in doing so. His lawyer pointed out that no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong and demanded his acquittal.
Mr. Wang was sentenced to one year on August 18. He is still held at the Heping District Detention Center, while awaiting the result of his appeal with the Shenyang City Intermediate Court.
Prior to his latest ordeal, Mr. Wang had already served three labor camp terms. After filing a criminal complaint against the former head of the Chinese Communist Party Jiang Zemin, who initiated the persecution in 1999, he was arrested on October 5, 2015, and sentenced to two years by the Heping District Court on June 15, 2016. He was admitted to the prison complex in Shenyang on November 24, 2016, and was fired by his employer, the Shenyang Railway Bureau.
