(Minghui.org) Ms. Kuang Zhihua was devastated to learn that her pension had been suspended when she completed a 7.5-year prison term in March 2025 for practicing Falun Gong. The Nanchang County, Jiangxi Province, resident also faced constant harassment from the police.
Ms. Kuang was arrested at home on September 13, 2017, after the police tricked her into opening the door. She was taken to the Nanchang County Police Department for interrogation.
Ms. Kuang was admitted to the Nanchang County Detention Center the next afternoon. On May 6, 2019, after nearly two years of detention, she was sentenced to seven and a half years with a 20,000-yuan fine by the Xihu District Court. Her crime was “raising awareness about the persecution of Falun Gong using the internet.” Presiding judge Liu Yufang, assistant judges Yu Meng and Zhao Peipei, and prosecutor Li Shuhui of the Xihu District Procuratorate signed her verdict.
Ms. Kuang appealed to the Nanchang City Intermediate Court. The presiding judge Li Jing appointed lawyer Yao Zhicheng of the Yangmingyang Law Firm to represent her, without her consent. Judge Li also wrongfully listed Ms. Kuang’s daughter and son-in-law as witnesses against her. Without a hearing, judge Li and her assistant judges, Li Cheng and Zhang Yan, upheld the original verdict.
Ms. Kuang was subjected to various torture methods while serving time at the Jiangxi Province Women’s Prison.
When Ms. Kuang was released on March 13, 2025, she was devastated to find that her pension had been suspended. Another 90,000 yuan pension payments were also withheld by the social security bureau while she was still in prison. She frequented the social security bureau, demanding the authorities to reinstate her pension, but to no avail.
In addition to the financial persecution, Ms. Kuang also faced ongoing police harassment.
Around 7: 30 p.m. on December 31, 2025, two officers, including one surnamed Hu, of the Liantang Town Police Station called Ms. Kuang, demanding to come to her home. She refused them, and they forced her daughter to take them there. The police took photos of Ms. Kuang without her permission and also questioned her about whether she was still practicing Falun Gong.
Officer Hu called Ms. Kuang again on May 27, 2026, and ordered her to report to them every three months. She refused to comply and hung up.
Officer Hu harassed Ms. Kuang at home on August 27, 2026. He videotaped her without her knowledge.
Between December 2025 and August 2026, several community workers also harassed Ms. Kuang and ordered her to sign statements to renounce Falun Gong. She didn’t comply.
