(Minghui.org) Minghui.org previously reported on the torture of Mr. Zhao Naiqian at the Jiazhou Prison in Sichuan Province. New information has emerged that the 65-year-old resident of Chengdu City in the same province is now very thin but has no major health issues.
Mr. Zhao took up Falun Gong while serving life in prison for embezzlement. While many other prisoners who were also sentenced to life have received sentence commutations and have been released, he remains jailed and faces continued brutal torture for upholding his faith. The prison authorities told his family that if he refused to “transform,” there would be no way for him to be released alive.
Bai Yang, head of the prison’s Tenth Division, called Mr. Zhao’s sister on September 3, 2026, asking her to visit her brother and persuade him to go to the hospital for a checkup.
Mr. Zhao’s sister arrived at the prison the next day and noted that he looked totally different since the last time they were allowed to visit him in mid-December 2025. He appeared to have aged significantly. His face looked different, and he was emaciated. He assured his sister that he didn’t have any major health problems. It was just that the prison food was very spicy and irritated his stomach. He said ate very little and suffered from constipation.
His sister asked why he didn’t want to have a checkup as the prison recommended. He replied that he feared he would not come out of the hospital alive. Having been jailed for so many years, he has seen too many cases where prisoners were taken to the hospital for “treatments,” only to die there.
Mr. Zhao warned his sister that director Bai, along with the ten other prison officials who were present to monitor the visit, had long attempted to do away with him because he refused to renounce Falun Gong.
Bai said Mr. Zhao needed inpatient care to treat his prostatitis or he’d be in critical condition. His sister doubted it because their father also had prostatitis but lived to be 88 years old. She knew that her brother had no major health issues and was mentally healthy. His life could not be in danger unless he was tortured to that point.
Mr. Zhao’s sister told Bai that if her brother didn’t want any medical treatment, then they should not force him to comply.
