(Minghui.org) As President Trump’s meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping ended on September 25, 2026, the peaceful protests held by Falun Gong practitioners in Washington DC also entered their last day. 

Since Xi arrived in the US on the evening of September 23, Falun Gong practitioners continued to hold banners at key locations along the routes he traveled. They also distributed information and raised awareness of the ongoing persecution.

Falun Dafa practitioners’ peaceful protests during those three days impressed the general public, while it did not stop some pro-CCP members from becoming violent. Along with several accomplices, a Chinese woman with a prior record of attacking Falun Gong practitioners in Flushing, NY attacked, beat, and even bit a female Falun Gong practitioner during the events. The attacker was restrained and handcuffed by the police.

Everyone Should Have Freedom of Belief

Jojo Ruba from Alberta, Canada was born in the Philippines. He is a Canadian orator, writer, and a priest. He accepted a flyer handed to him by a Falun Gong practitioner, and said he knew the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) persecutes Falun Gong. He said he was happy to see different groups publicly expressing their demands in the capital city, “It is wonderful that they are doing this. We live in a free country that allows freedom of speech and gives people a chance to publicly express their opinion.”

Speaking of the human rights situation in China, he said, “These are real human rights violations happening in China. There are credible eyewitnesses as well as evidence.” He thought Canada should not be so close with the CCP, instead it should work with more of its Western counterparts. He also said freedom of speech and basic rights are what citizens in every country should have “including Chinese citizens.”

Ruba said he’s seen Falun Gong practitioners’ activities in Canada and he’s also read many materials about the spiritual practice and the persecution. “I am a Christian. I believe that people should have freedom of religious faith, be able to choose the path they want. This should be their right.”

He also spoke of the persecution Christians in China face and that the CCP has closed churches. He said, “If they are able to persecute Falun Gong practitioners, they can persecute us. In fact, they are doing it right now.” He also mentioned the persecution suffered by Uyghurs and Muslims. He thought every country should pay attention to the plight of Chinese citizens.

Seeing many Chinese were expressing their demands, Ruba said, “We’ve all come from an Asian culture, we have great respect for the elderly. When they speak out, it is a signal, it shows everyone at home should speak out, too.” He said he is delighted to see people come here as a family “to express their support for freedom.” He said he hopes Chinese citizens can have freedom one day.

Pro-CCP Protesters Arrested for Attacking Falun Gong Practitioners

Many groups gathered in Washington DC during the summit to protest Xi Jinping’s visit and the CCP regime and 39 groups protested. It was reported that organizations linked to the CCP hired large numbers of people to form “welcoming squads,” in an attempt to drown out the voices of protesters.

According to screenshots from a WeChat group revealed by an insider, a woman named “Xia” has recently been actively recruiting people in Chinese community groups in Los Angeles and other areas. She claimed the event “was funded by the Chinese Embassy and the Chamber of Commerce inviting people to attend” and that “the itinerary was scheduled for September 22 - 26 with an official notice issued.” She said “airfare, meals, and accommodations would be provided for free” and the purpose was to “witness the meeting between Xi Jinping and Trump.” “Xia” confirmed the “free meals, accommodations, and airfare” “welcoming ceremony” in a phone conversation and claimed she recruited over 40 people. Other Chinese business associations also recruited people to welcome Xi Jinping. Many seemingly ordinary Chinese community groups are in fact managed by the Chinese Embassy and operate as an organization under the United Front Work Department.

According to a screenshot of a group chat from a Chinese school, the Chinese school association will pay for transportation and accommodations of those who participate in welcoming Xi Jinping.

These pro-CCP protesters wore the same color baseball cap, and many also wore face masks and sunglasses to hide their identities. They harassed passersby as well as members of groups who protested Xi Jinping, including taking their photos without permission.

Around 3:30 p.m on September 24, several pro-CCP protesters gathered at the head office of the US Environmental Protection Agency on Constitution Ave. and blocked a Falun Gong practitioner from walking by. 

A woman named Li Huahong, a pro-CCP member, rushed over and began beating this practitioner. Police witnessed the assault and handcuffed her. Li Huahong was found guilty of attacking Falun Gong practitioners in Flushing, New York in 2013. Before police were able to restrain her, she and several accomplices beat, kicked, bit and scratched the practitioner.

People Support Falun Gong Upon Learning About the Persecution

Falun Gong practitioners held banners along the route when Xi Jinping went to the National Archives Museum on September 25, which was the last meeting of the summit. Practitioners distributed flyers to explain why they were protesting and told people the persecution they experienced as well as their current situation.

Professor Dana Churchill from California was one of the practitioners holding banners, and he flew to Washington DC from California to take part in the peaceful protests. Speaking of recent assaults targeting Falun Gong practitioners, he felt it was part of the CCP’s transnational repression and said, “Many similar incidents have taken place in the past year and it is getting worse, attacking people right here on our free soil. These assaulters should be treated like other offenders, arrested and thrown in jail.”

Churchill held banners, and distributed flyers during the summit. He said many people held Chinese flags. He wants to tell these Chinese people: “Don’t let the CCP decide your future. You need to break free, and withdraw from the CCP.” He also hopes they will at least read the flyers given out by practitioners and learn the truth.

When asked what he hopes local residents to know, Churchill mentioned the persecution suffered by practitioners in China and the issue of forced organ harvesting. He thought many people still lack understanding of how severe the persecution is, yet Chinese citizens have long lived in fear. “They are scared, everything is built on this fear. It is truly pathetic.”

Churchill said the people he met in Washington DC were very positive, “Everyone gave us a thumbs up or wanted to know more.” Some people immediately read the flyers about the persecution. Some told him, “I am really sad to hear about this” and, “We will pray for you.”

“Everyone is very supportive,” he said.
