A woman in Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province, struggled with poor health after serving two prison sentences for practicing Falun Gong. Ms. Wang Ruifeng passed away on June 18, 2026, seven months after her last prison release. She was 70.
Ms. Wang, a retired elementary school teacher, took up Falun Gong in 1996. She soon regained her health and she became more peaceful. Influenced by their teacher’s improved temperament, her students also disciplined themselves better.
Ms. Wang was reported by a local person for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in a village on May 12, 2014, and was subsequently arrested. The police ransacked her home and confiscated over 10,000 yuan in cash.
While Ms. Wang was incarcerated at a detention center, the guards instigated inmates Wang Yan and Diao Lili to beat her. She lost three teeth during the beating. Ms. Wang was held in solitary confinement in July 2014. The guards ordered the inmates to tape her mouth closed.
Bi Shijun from the Dahushan Town Police Station fabricated evidence against Ms. Wang and submitted her case to the Heishan County Procuratorate. She was secretly tried by the Heishan County Court in September 2014 and was later sentenced to five years in Liaoning Province Women’s Prison. She was released in May 2019.
Ms. Wang was approached by three plainclothes officers when she went out on April 2, 2021. After confirming her identity, they forced her back home and made her open the door for them. They then revealed that they were from the Heishan County Domestic Security Office. An officer threatened to sentence Ms. Wang to prison upon seeing a photo of the founder of Falun Gong in her home.
Ms. Wang demanded that the officers leave. They forcibly carried her to the police car and took her to the Jinzhou City Lockup.
After Ms. Wang was released two weeks later, she noticed several officers stationed outside of her home. She realized that the police likely released her in an attempt to arrest other practitioners who had contact with her.
The police arrested Ms. Wang again on May 12, while she was talking to people about Falun Gong at a market.
On May 18, Wang Zhen and Li Bo, of the Heishan County Domestic Security Office, submitted Ms. Wang’s case to the Linghai City Procuratorate, which is in charge of all Falun Gong cases in the Jinzhou area (which oversees Heishan County). A prosecutor surnamed Tao was in charge of her case.
Ms. Wang was tried by the Linghai City Court on November 3, 2021, and was later sentenced to four and a half years. She was admitted to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison on July 15, 2022.
Ms. Wang endured brutal torture in prison and was in very poor health when she was released on November 17, 2025. She died seven months later, on June 18, 2026.
