Over a dozen Boston practitioners attended a political rally for a presidential candidate yesterday. Of course, we did not involve ourselves in politics. We handed out flyers calling for "worldwide humanitarian support" for Falun Gong practitioners, which included pictures and information about the suppression of Falun Gong in China, statements by the Associated Press and the Wall Street Journal, contact information for Falun Gong, and the email addresses of the presidential candidates in case people want to write letters to voice their support for Falun Gong.
We found the people there to be very receptive. A lot of them were already somewhat aware of the situation in China. One college student even asked for several copies of the flyer to bring back to her school, and some others wanted to learn more about the practice. In the end we handed out about 3000 flyers in 2 hours.
In addition to materials about the suppression of Falun Gong, I also found it was helpful to have a variety of different materials in my bag. For example, one man was upset because he thought we were against the Chinese communist government. I gave him a recent Minghui article written by an insider of the communist party called "Jiang Zemin Cannot Shirk the Responsibility for the Persecution of Falun Gong." As opposed to my experience at an agricultural fair recently, I also thought that this was the appropriate environment for wearing the bright yellow t-shirts saying, "China: Stop Persecuting Falun Gong."
Boston practitioners are now preparing a big banner for tomorrow's presidential debate.
