On October 25, the "China in the World" symposium was held in No. 2 meeting hall of Sweden's Federal Parliamentary Building. The symposium was co-sponsored by Sweden's Development Issues Association and Sweden's Foreign Affairs Committee. Sweden's Trade Minister, Sweden's Parliamentary spokesperson, representatives of the Foreign Affairs Department, representatives of various parties, various renowned experts on China and professors attended the symposium. They gave speeches on human rights, economics, trade, environmental issues and societal problems in China.
More than 10 of Sweden's Falun Gong practitioners attended the symposium. With the meeting organizer's approval, they handed participants introductory materials on Falun Gong, and information on the persecution and suffering of Falun Gong practitioners in China.
During the symposium, just about every speaker touched on the human rights issue of Falun Gong in China. They unanimously considered the crackdown of Falun Gong as very wrong, and regarded the crackdown as another human rights abuse of Jiang Zemin's government.
During the discussion sessions, the Falun Gong human rights issue was raised further. The experts on China talked about various kinds of societal problems China is presently confronting. In addition, they mentioned Jiang Zemin's loss of support in both the party and the government because of his insistence on the persecution of Falun Gong. Representatives from Foreign Affairs Department also indicated that they would take further steps through various channels to call upon the Chinese government to stop the persecution of Falun Gong.
After the symposium, Falun Gong practitioners had brief conversations with some of the government officials. They all showed their support for our activity in clarifying the truth of Falun Gong to the Swedish government and Swedish people. They also expressed their admiration for the practitioners' reverence and unwavering faith in the truth of Falun Dafa.
