A follower of the banned Falun Gong spiritual [group] died days after being released from a labour camp in northern China where he had endured eight months of torture, the group alleged yesterday. Ren Mengjun, 56, had been detained in his home village of Dongfeng, Hebei province, after going to Beijing in January to petition the Government about the ban on the [group], the Falun Dafa Information Centre said at its New York headquarters. At the Handan City Labour Camp, also in Hebei, he was severely maltreated after refusing to renounce his belief in the group, banned two years ago as an [Jiang Zemin government's slanderous term omitted], the statement said. Ren returned home late last month, suffering from internal injuries, bruising and deafness. He died on October 29, the group said, adding he had said his injuries were caused by beatings inflicted by a camp guard and other inmates egged on by the same guard. [...]
