RE: Article 23, Hong Kong's Freedom is Being Threatened, We Strongly Oppose the Proposal to Implement Article 23
Dear Sir/Madam,
Like many other people, we like Hong Kong because of its relatively free environment and respect for the rule of law. At the same time, the free flow of information exchange has made Hong Kong a valuable part of international society in the region.
Being a family from Canada, we can relate to way of life the Hong Kong people have come to know, that is, the freedom to live in an open and dignified way and to feel a sense of mutual respect among people in society.
However, we are deeply concerned that the proposal in the recent Hong Kong government's consultation document entitled "Proposals to Implement Article 23 of the Basic Law" will lead to the deterioration of human rights and the rule of law in Hong Kong. In particular, the rights of the people from Hong Kong to freedom of expression, freedom of the press, freedom of association and freedom of information will be threatened if the proposal becomes law.
Considering Article 23's threats to human rights and all the advantages Hong Kong has enjoyed, we oppose the proposals to implement Article 23. We would like to strongly ask you to consider the future of Hong Kong and please stop the implementation of Article 23.
Thank you.
Sincerely yours,
A concerned family in Canada
