(Clearwisdom.net) A reporter from Hong Kong's newspaper the Apple Daily reported on March 15 that officials from the Chinese government have warned that foreign forces must not be allowed to regard Hong Kong as a base against China. The recent event when police arrested four Swiss practitioners brought high public attention. It raises doubt that the Hong Kong government is intending to suppress foreign forces regarding Falun Gong activities in Hong Kong.
Kan Hung Cheung, spokesperson for the Hong Kong Falun Dafa Association, stated that they have informed the Swiss Consul in Hong Kong and hope to help release the practitioners as soon as possible.
Li Pengguang, an associate professor in the Department of Politics and Sociology, Lingnan University of Hong Kong, said, "In the past, the government did not deal with Falun Gong practitioners with such high attention." He believed that, since there were foreign practitioners participating in the sitting protests and police handled it in such a high tone, it is easy to suspect that the government intended to suppress foreign forces involved in Falun Gong activities in Hong Kong.
Blocking the Street or Just an Embarrassment?
Luo Woqi, the general official supervising Human Rights of Hong Kong, has the opinion that it does not matter what the reason was that the China Liaison Office in Hong Kong brought their claim or whether there were foreign forces involved, because this does not give police free rein to proceed with arrests regardless whether the claim to block the street was true. He believes the event has damaged Hong Kong's reputation in the international community.
