To protest Jiang Zemin's order to "Kill without Pardon" Falun Gong practitioners in Ottawa, New York, Houston, Vancouver and San Francisco held hunger strikes in front of their respective Chinese Consulates. During the UN Human Rights Commission Conference over10 non-governmental organizations in Canada called upon the Canadian government to take the lead in condemning the Chinese government for its deteriorating human rights violations. Canadian MP Irwin Cotler pointed out that the current human rights situation in China is the worst since the 1989 Tiananmen massacre.
Views and Perspectives
A Broadcast Script: What is the crime? The Chinese constitution specifically states that people have the freedom of belief, speech, assembly and association. If these fundamental rights of Falun Gong practitioners had not been deprived there would have been no need for them to clarify the truth because they could have had an open dialogue with Jiang Zemin in newspapers and on television or have worked through legal channels to obtain justice. But in actuality all the legal rights of Falun Dafa practitioners have been deprived and their only option is to clarify the truth to the public calmly and rationally.
News From Abroad
Falun Gong practitioners in Northern Europe published "A Statement For Fellow Countrymen in China," in which they called for people's attention to the brutal persecution and murder that is taking place in China right now. They hope their fellow Chinese will ask themselves: Why does the Jiang and Luo regime bear so much fear and hatred toward Falun Gong? Is it really wrong to live according to "Truth, Compassion, Tolerance?"
Hearing the Truth Reveals People's Hearts
Three stories about people who learned the truth:
In a small city in the countryside in Heilongjiang Province, two practitioners were kidnapped and sent into a detention center. Their wives went to many government agencies to appeal but were ignored. Then, they planned to go to Beijing to appeal, which shocked the local government officials, who then hastily released the practitioners to show appeasement.
Before the Chinese New Year, a practitioner went to the market to give out flyers. An old vendor couldn't wait to get the flyer, and he even closed his business early in order to go home and read the flyer.
A practitioner willingly bought a bag of salt that had a hole in it, which moved the vendor. This changed the vendor's attitude, and he said he would take a good look at truth-clarification flyers when he got home.
Experience Sharing Among Practitioners
I am a 63-year-old female practitioner. On November 30, 2001, I reached Beijing successfully. When I got ready to clarify the truth, the police arrested me and took me to the Tiananmen Police Station. I was later transferred to the Daxing County Police Station, the local liaison office in Beijing, a detention center, etc. I was illegally detained for 56 days. I persisted in eliminating the evil with righteous thoughts, clarifying the truth, and disclosing the evil.
A lesson: because I was affected by sentiments, our (truth clarifying) material site was destroyed by the persecutors. A Dafa practitioner got to know a "fellow practitioner" through the Internet. It was said that the "fellow practitioner" had good enlightenment quality, good Xinxing, and was very active in clarifying the truth. One day, the "fellow practitioner" disappeared suddenly and never came back. Then the material site was destroyed. We suggest that those practitioners who are not working at the material sites avoid going there, and especially avoid bringing people whom you are not familiar with to a material site.
Some practitioners put a lighted sign box on top of their cars, to introduce Dafa and expose the persecution in China.
Latest News from China
Today, 229 practitioners published their solemn declarations that everything they did and said that was unfit for a Falun Dafa practitioner while under tremendous pressure, being tortured and brainwashed is invalid. They will redouble their efforts to make up for the damage done, clarify the truth to people, and catch up with Master Li's Fa-rectification process.
A Dafa practitioner, who was illegally sent to a forced labor camp, said in a letter written to the related officials, "I was arrested 6 times for practicing Falun Gong. On April 2001, I was sentenced to 3 years in a labor camp and sent to the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp. During my detention there, the guards beat and kicked me, tortured me with electric batons, and used the torture of suffocation on me three times with plastic bags.[This is a cruel torture where the guards tightly wrap a practitioner's head with plastic bags and then remove the bags when the practitioner is on the verge of death.] The guards said, "We will not be held responsible even if we torture you to death."
Natural and Man-made Calamities Give Warnings to People
Liu Chunli, a retired teacher who had sexually harassed schoolgirls many times, became a "spy" to keep watch on Dafa practitioners. Liu held on to windows and peeked through doors, sneaking around for information. Before long, Liu died in a car accident. Another villager, seeking after reward money and caring nothing about justice, decided to be a "spy" after Liu's death. Soon thereafter, he fell from the roof of a several-meters-high house and broke his arm.
In Beijing, Spring means fierce winds and sand storms. Gauze masks (covering the nose and mouth) usually used for keeping warm in the winter and preventing flu, appear again. People also use handkerchiefs to cover their faces and insert wet towels underneath the doors to keep out the dust. Coughing, blowing noses, clearing throats, and spitting are becoming more and more serious.
The "Yellow Dragon" has come without any invitation. Experts estimate that a sand storm will hit Beijing again on March 21, 2002. Since 2:00 pm of March 15, the sky has been getting more and more yellow and the sky color during the daytime looks like that of evenings. From high above, people can see yellow sand dancing between tall buildings and streets. The continuous two-day sand storms have forced many residents to wrap gauze kerchiefs around their heads and wear hats when they go out.
According to the news on Sina.com.cn website on March 20, 2002, Gansu Province had the strongest sand storm this year on March 19; yellow sand was everywhere in Lanzhou City. The visibility of some districts was zero. It was called black storm weather. The visibility in Lanzhou City was as low as 400 meters.
