After many practitioners read Master's lecture in Florida, we all thought that we were not studying the Fa enough and needed to do more. Some practitioners were determined to read more and set a certain amount of time or pages of Fa to study each day. Though studying the Fa more is good, I understand that there are deeper meanings to Master's requirement on us for Fa study.
I understand that the length of time or number of pages of Fa we study each day is not as important as the state we are in when studying the Fa. I have noticed that I enlighten to more principles and more of my questions are answered with just a half an hour of quality Fa study than a week of not so focused study. When my mind is really calm and I am able to completely focus on the Fa, when studying I am truly within the Fa and able to enlighten to its high and deep principles. When my mind is partially studying the Fa and partially thinking about something else (even Fa-rectification work) I am really only deceiving myself, and that state of Fa study does not count for much.
Instead of setting rigid requirements of the length of Fa study each day, I set rigid requirements of the mental state I am in when I study the Fa. I often will practice some of the exercises and/or send forth righteous thoughts before I study. When sending forth righteous thoughts I clear away those evil factors (both internal and external) that prevent me from studying the Fa well. When I study the Fa, I make sure that I am completely focusing on the studying. If I find that my mind wanders and it is difficult to bring it back and stay focused, then I often send forth righteous thoughts again and remind myself of the seriousness of studying the Fa. I have noticed a great improvement in my Fa study, which in turns positively affects my sending forth righteous thoughts and clarifying the truth.
