Reported by Chongqing Morning Newspaper dated May 16 2002:
On the morning of May 15 2002 around 8:30A.M, Mr. Wu Yongping, the vice director of Huangjiaya Township, and his colleagues drove by a scenic spot on their way to work. The weather was perfect and everyone was in good spirits.
"Suddenly, we found the scenery changed." Wu said. They saw a very beautiful Yuzhong Peninsula suspended in the air. Even three tall cranes also appeared in the floating city. No one could believe their eyes. Soon they realized this was a mirage. The mirage lasted about 20 minutes and disappeared in the fog at around 8:50A.M.
Mr. Xiao from Nan'an Industrial Bank and a group of seven or eight people saw a different mirage from another direction. They first found that the sky looked different, so they took an elevator to the top of the building, which is 33 stories high. On the top of the building, they saw a beautiful mirage like a traditional Chinese landscape painting.
The reporter called the weather center of Chongqing City. The reporter was told that Chongqing had never seen a mirage before. No citizens reported it to the weather center, either. Mr. Liu from Chongqing Weather Center said mirages were mostly seen in the desert or near the sea. But Chongqing's weather was normal these days, so they were not sure if this was a mirage.
