Editor's note: Clearwisdom has received many heart-felt letters in the past week expressing deep concern over the politically motivated prosecution of Falun Gong practitioners in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, we cannot post them all, so we have chosen the following letters as representative samples.

Dear Sir or Madam,
As you know, the trial of the sixteen Falun Gong practitioners arrested for meditating in front of the Chinese Liaison Office resumes today. This trial represents a tremendous watershed in Hong Kong's history: can the Hong Kong judiciary system make its judgments based on facts and laws, or will it bow to pressure from the Chinese government? The whole world is watching.
The Honorable Chief Justice Mr. Andrew Li, states:
"The cardinal principles of the rule of law and the independence of the Judiciary are vital elements of Hong Kong's legal system and are fundamental to Hong Kong's success. As we progress into the next millennium, competence, integrity and independence will remain the hallmarks of the Judiciary. Hong Kong will continue to flourish with the rule of law being vigorously maintained by an independent Judiciary."
These are true and powerful words, which demand righteous and powerful actions to make them real. I implore you, for the future of Hong Kong and for the cause of justice everywhere to act strongly and solely upon the principles of Truth and Justice, to let only laws and justice inform your decisions.
This is an important moment in your lives, in Hong Kong's history, in the history of human civilization. Please let truth and justice rule.
Thank you very much, An American citizen

To the people of Hong Kong,
I am a concerned citizen of the United States. The whole world knows that Falun Gong is a peaceful practice, and is innocent of these charges. The US alone has bestowed Falun Gong with hundreds of proclamations including "Falun Dafa weeks" and "Li Hongzhi days." For the sake of your future, and your freedom, please do not convict the innocent Falun Gong practitioners. The persecution of the innocent is China's shame, do not make it Hong Kong's as well.
Sincerely,

August 5, 2002,
Dear sir or madam,
As a Chinese student studying overseas, I am very concerned about what is happening in Hong Kong.
From newspapers and the Internet, I have learned that the Hong Kong government has put some 16 Falun Gong practitioners on trial, blaming them for "blocking the street and attacking Police officers". I am very concerned and dismayed by this news.
Falun Gong has been welcomed and practiced peacefully in more than 50 countries by millions of people. Only the Jiang regime persecutes Falun Gong for its political interest. To justify their persecution, they even directed a self-immolation on Tiananmen Square last year and blamed that incident on Falun Gong. However, the free world knows the truth. Most recently the U.S. Congress has passed Resolution 188 to condemn the brutal persecution and call on the Jiang regime to end it as soon as possible.
Falun Gong in Hong Kong, under the "one country, two systems" policy, enjoyed the freedom of belief and free expression with all Hong Kong people. However, this trial casts great question on the policy. From media reports and the Internet, I found that there is more than enough proof to show that Falun Gong practitioners were demonstrating peacefully and were not blocking the street at all. On the contrary, it was the police officers that attacked some practitioners. Despite all these facts, the trial has been continued for nearly half a year. To me, it clearly is because of pressure from Beijing, and the Hong Kong Government is jeopardizing the "one country, two systems" by conducting such a trial. If you put Falun Gong practitioners who practice Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance on trial, anyone can be next when the pressure comes again.
As a Chinese, I sincerely wish the prosperity of Hong Kong. I hope you will take action to stop the unfair political trial and safeguard justice in Hong Kong, and safeguard the "one country, two systems". Thank you
Best Wishes .

To: Hong Kong Residents
Dear Hong Kong Resident,
I have read and followed with deep concern the trial of the Hong Kong and Swiss Falun Gong practitioners. What has become of the "One Country, Two Systems?" Why was this even brought to trial?
I'm a Falun Dafa practitioner and have derived many physical and mental benefits from this practice. I have not relapsed and been subject to chemotherapy treatment for 2 years, while before practicing Falun Dafa I was never able to be in remission for more than 8 months.
All these Falun Gong practitioners wanted to do to was practice in a peaceful environment and demonstrate for the brethren in China who are horribly persecuted.
Please take a minute out of your busy schedule and read about this peaceful practice. All information is widely open and free of charge --http://www.faluninfo.net/
Thank you for listening.
Sincerely, A Washington D.C. practitioner
