From 6:30pm to 9pm on October 8th 2003, Falun Gong practitioners held a candle-light vigil in front of the Chinese Consulate in Sydney to mourn the death of an Australian citizen's brother, Mr. Ouyang Ming. Ouyang, a teacher of Huanggang Industry School in Hubei Province, was tortured to death on August 20, 2003. Practitioners were appealing for an immediate end to the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in China, and for the criminal dictator Jiang Zemin to be brought to justice.
Ouyang Ming's brother, Mr. Ouyang Yu, is an Australian citizen and a renowned writer and poet. After Ouyang Ming was persecuted to death, Ouyang Yu felt there was no place he could go to find justice in China. When he learned that his brother had received some 100 means of torture, that his body was full of cuts and bruises and that he had a big hole in his lung due to force-feeding, Mr. Ouyang (a non-practitioner) was speechless with grievance and resentment. In order to expose the circumstances surrounding his brother's death, Mr. Ouyang Yu tried various means to contact Falun Gong practitioners.
More than ten Australian citizens' family members are being illegally detained in China. They have been sent to forced labor camps and brainwash classes where they are tortured and abused because they practice Falun Gong, and refuse to give up their belief. Their families and relatives, inside or outside China, all endure the mental wounds and financial losses resulting from their relatives' detention.
One Falun Gong practitioner whose elder brother has been detained many times said, "The crisis resulting from the persecution of Falun Gong not only hurts Falun Gong practitioners - even their families, parents, brothers and sisters, children and spouses have also become direct victims. Not to mention the spiritual and moral crisis caused to this society and every being! This persecution should be immediately stopped! The principal criminal Jiang Zemin, who initiated this persecution, should undergo a fair trial in the court of law."
