(Clearwisdom.net) At noon on November 14 2003, Falun Gong practitioners in Washington DC gathered in front of the Chinese Embassy and held a press conference to call for the urgent rescue of U.S. citizen Charles Lee.
Ms. Yeong-Ching Foo, Charles Li' s fiancé, also attended and said: "From a conversation with Charles on November 5, the American Consulate official in Shanghai, China has learned that Charles has been forcefully dragged to brainwashing sessions and forced to stay there for 3 hours a day over the past month. Furthermore, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security has sent an official named Gong Shao to talk with Charles and try to force him to admit guilt. Shao also threatened that Charles would be in trouble if Charles refused to meet with him."
Ms. Yeong-Ching Foo also said, "Charles' several request to see U.S. consulate officials were all rejected by the prison authorities. They dispatched 6 inmates to his cell to monitor him around the clock and prevent him from practicing Falun Gong. These prisoners are drug abusers and/or criminals. Charles has been clarifying the truth to them, and some later found their conscience and no longer mistreated Charles. The prison officials thus replace them frequently with new inmates to monitor Charles. The Chinese communist regime has also pressured Charles' brother, wanting to know who is working to rescue Charles in the U.S."
In the statement of the press conference for rescuing Charles Lee, Falun Gong practitioners in Washington DC said, "We come here today because our fellow practitioner, U.S. citizen Charles Lee is suffering forced brainwashing in China's jail. Talking about brainwashing, it is hard to understand and someone may think that we exaggerate. Those who experienced China's Cultural Revolution and political movements one after another, and those who were spiritually tortured in Gulags in the former Soviet Union and mental hospitals understand us, and shudder upon thinking of 'being transformed'. This is inhumane and cannot be expressed with human language. However, we try to explain it."
