Dear Australian Minister of Immigration:
The Ministry of Immigration has turned down Wang Juntao's and Wang Liluan's applications for refugee status after accepting the official Chinese account of the situation in China. There seems to be a misconception that Falun Gong practitioners will not be persecuted as long as they do not practice openly.
Falun Gong practitioners in China believe that it is very likely that Chinese officials have misled the Australian Refugee Court, as this reason for not granting refugee status is not grounded in facts. In Mainland China, there are many Falun Gong practitioners practicing at home. Since July 20, 1999, some people have been practicing at home, have never handed out truth-clarification materials or posted truth-clarification flyers, appealed to the government on Tiananmen Square, etc. However, these practitioners have been seized from their homes and workplaces, and sent to brainwashing centers by the police (they can also be seized by their work units, or by people in their communities), where they are subjected to forced brainwashing. They are coerced into guaranteeing in writing that they will give up their beliefs, stop practicing Falun Gong, and into criticizing Falun Gong. Those who refuse to write such "guarantee letters" are tortured , beaten, and starved or transferred to forced labor camps to be subjected to similar abuse.
For example, the local Shenzhen government persecuted Falun Gong practitioners who worked at the Dayawen nuclear power plant even though they did not openly practice Falun Gong in the year 2001. At that time, the Shenzhen government was trying hard to force those Falun Gong practitioners to give up their beliefs and pressuring them to write guarantee letters. All those who didn't give up their beliefs were sent to forced labor camps. Although this type of information is heavily blocked by Jiang's regime, we believe that you will be able to locate numerous facts about the true situation.
Sincerely yours,
Falun Dafa practitioners in Mainland China
