Dafa practitioner Wu Zhijun was a biology professor at Zhongshan University in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province.
Since 1999, when the persecution of Dafa began, the university and local police station pressured him many times, asking him to give up his belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. To avoid further harassment, he left the university in 2000 and wandered about. In December 2001, he, along with his mother, was arrested at a Dafa truth-clarification material production site in Wuzhou City, Guangxi Province. To avoid responsibility, the Guangzhou police refused to take him back to Guangzhou. The local "610 Office" [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems] in Wuzhou intimidated him, but Professor Wu refused to give in. He was then illegally sentenced to 8 years in prison and is now jailed at the Guilin Prison, in Guangxi Province.
The party committee at Zhongshan University had long wanted to dismiss him but was restrained by a certain rule that stipulates that work units cannot dismiss employees who are sentenced to labor education. Now learning of the news, they fired Professor Wu, because he is now sentenced to prison, not labor education.
Professor Wu's mother, Wu Yuxian, was arrested at the same time, along with him. She is an over 60-year-old retired nurse of the Tumor Hospital, affiliated with Zhongshan University. She was illegally sentenced to 2 years of forced labor education. Professor Wu's brother and sister-in-law have also been sentenced to forced labor education and they are now being detained at the Huadu Labor Camp and the Chatou Women's Labor Camp in Guangzhou City, respectively. Such a family has thus been broken under the persecution by Jiang's regime, just because they believe in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
