U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle, D-Swissvale wrote his own letters to U.S. and Chinese officials, including the U.S. Ambassador to Beijing, urging her release. The University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University's Amnesty International chapters wrote letters to the Chinese Embassy. University of Pittsburgh's Chinese American Student Association helped collect signatures. Pittsburgh City Councilman William Peduto and the local media also tried to help get the word out.

(Clearwisdom.net) May 23rd report: in November 2000, Dafa practitioner Di Wanqing, a resident in Nanzhuang Township, Lixian County, Hebei Province, was kidnapped and sent to Baoding City Labor Camp, where he was brutally tortured. In 2003, the guards were afraid of taking responsibility if Di Wanqing died in the labor camp, so they sent him home. Unable to recover from injuries suffered in the labor camp, Di Wanqing passed away on May 1, 2003.

Ms. Zhao Chunying was a 56-year-old Dafa practitioner from Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province. After July 1999, because she went to appeal for Falun Dafa, she was arrested and detained at the Hengshan District Branch Office of the Jixi City Police Department, where she was beaten and cursed at.
