Since 1999, the Chinese Government has engaged in systematic persecution of peaceful Falun Gong practitioners. Chinese citizens who practice Falun Gong are locked away in prison or psychiatric institutions for years on end, and are often tortured in an effort to get them to renounce their beliefs.
Dr. Charles' Li's manuscript is a 109-page neatly handwritten document that he prepared in prison in China. Dr. Li went on hunger strike for eight days to protest jail officials' refusal to allow these documents to leave the prison. Sixty-nine pages of the manuscript were written while his hands were tightly cuffed for three days and nights.
