On July 18, 2000, Bai Xiaojun went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was illegally sentenced to a labor camp term. He was tortured to death on the night of July 18, 2003, after having been persecuted for a full three years.
Just before Bai Xiaojun's death, the labor camp informed his family members to pick him up. At that time, labor camp police had detained him at the epidemic hospital of Changchun City where he was diagnosed with tuberculosis. One of Bai Xiaojun's family members, who saw his terrible condition right before his death, was astonished. He was so malnourished that you could identify his every bone; his body was very weak and swollen, and he had been severely tortured and was covered in scars. An X-ray showed that one of his lungs could not be seen. He died before his mother arrived. The family member questioned the labor camp staff: "Why did you inform us so late? He used to be a very healthy person until after what you did to him"! The section manager of the labor camp education department, Mr. Chen, carelessly said, "He only had a headache and fever, it was not necessary to inform his family members." Bai Xiaojun's mother told them, "A healthy man was tortured to death by you! The labor camp is responsible for his death." A section manager, Mr. Ma, said back to her, "You are too old and do not know how to speak. We are in charge of supervising people. You do not listen and still you are arguing and trying to reason with us." The labor camp director, Wang Xiaoming, said that they had nothing to do with his death.
Later on, Bai Xiaojun's mother told the staff of the "610 office" [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems] at Northeast Normal University that Bai Xiaojun died in un-natural circumstances and the people at this "610 office" were responsible for his death. The director, Mr. Ye, argued, "We had nothing to do with Mr. Bai's death. It is the responsibility of the labor camp and his death was caused by labor camp personnel." "All you cultivators and overseas practitioners always called us and told us not to torture Bai Xiaojun," he complained. "We did not persecute any people here. It was all done by the labor camp's people." Bai Xiaojun's mother then asked him, "Then why didn't you tell the overseas practitioners to clarify the truth that the persecution was done by the labor camp people and tell them the labor camp's phone number." Mr. Ye was unable to answer her questions. They were the ones who sent Mr. Bai Xiaojun to the labor camp.
The total hospital cost for Bai Xiaojun was fifteen thousand Yuan. The labor camp asked the Northeast Normal University to share eight thousand Yuan and Bai Xiaojun's family to share seven thousand Yuan, but the labor camp only paid one thousand Yuan for storing Bai Xiaojun's body at a funeral home. During the funeral arrangements, only Bai Xiaojun's work unit came out to arrange the funeral service but the labor camp personnel never came. Later on, after a lot of effort, his family members obtained copies of some of his physical examination and diagnosis records. Initially the labor camp did not allow the hospital to give out any information, but his family worked extremely hard with the hospital, and were finally able to get a copy of his medical record. The following information was recorded in the diagnosis papers: hepatitis caused by medicinal substance, edema all over the body, extremely weak physical condition, whole body covered by torture scars. Later on, a righteous doctor told his family: "This sick person did not die under normal circumstances."
Bai Xiaojun's family used to be very happy, but now has been devastated by Jiang's regime only because they believe in "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance." His brother, Bai Shaohua, was arrested at the end of 2001 for appealing for Falun Gong and is now still detained at Tuanhe Labor Camp in Beijing. Currently nobody knows his condition. Bai Xiaojun's mother and his family members carried Bai Xiaojun's ashes to the Tuanhe Labor Camp four times, but they still were not allowed to see Bai Shaohua. According to some internal information, Bai Shaohua is being illegally detained at the seventh division of the Tuanhe Labor Camp, which has been closed down because the labor camp police sold drugs to the detainees. Presently there are only thirteen people left in the seventh division and there are two practitioners among them - Bai Shaofa and another practitioner, Mr. Hu. The rest of the people take turns to continuously watch these two practitioners day and night. At the time Mr. Bai's mother was visiting Bai Shaohua, he was handcuffed and tied to a bed every day because he resisted the persecution, and was only allowed to go to the rest room once per day. Because he refused to wear a labor camp uniform, the police ordered a criminal to brutally beat him. He also refused to run laps as ordered by the police so they ordered people to drag him to run. As a result, his pants were torn to shreds. According internal news, the last time Bai's mother went to visit him, he had a broken bone from severe beatings, and a laceration in his head, which was bandaged. The police were afraid that Bai's mother would tell Bai Shaohua about Bai Xiaojun's death, so she was denied permission to see Bai Shaohua.
