Facts of the Persecution
According to insiders, Jia Zigang, the captain of the first middle team of the Third Brigade in the Xuchang Forced Labor Camp, and instructors Ma Huating, Liu Tianshun, and Shi Baolong are directly responsible for the death of Falun Gong practitioner Zhao Guoan. Two assisting criminals, Bai Chunsheng and Zhang Erguai, were Zhao Guoan's escorts. Zhao Guoan was sent to the Third Forced Labor Camp of Henan Province in August 2000 and was tortured many times by the guards. At the end of September, Zhao, against his will, was coerced into signing statements to give up Falun Gong. On December 24, Zhao formally stated that he wanted to continue his practice of Falun Gong. Under Ma Huating's direct order, Jia Zigang and Liu Tianshun brutally tortured Zhao Guoan for three days behind closed doors. On December 27, the two escorts claimed that Zhao was sent to the hospital because of stomach pain. In fact, Zhao was already dead at the time.
Wang Min, 33 years old, used to work at the Yuzhong District Branch of the China Commercial Bank in Chongqing City. In 2000, police from the National Security Bureau abducted her. The National Security Bureau wanted to make her a spy to report Falun Gong on practitioners, but she refused. She was persecuted and lost her home and her job. The perpetrators abducted her again on August 11, 2004, and illegally imprisoned her in the Chongqing City Jiulong District Prison, where she is still being held. Wang Min's husband Mr. Wang Rongwu, 36 years old, was abducted to the Jiulongpo District Brainwashing Center in December 2000. He later escaped and had nowhere to go. He was kidnapped again on August 11, 2004, and is currently imprisoned in the Dadukou District Prison. Wang Min's mother Ms. Zhou Hua'an, 63 years old, was abducted in 2001 to the district brainwashing center. Ms. Zhou later escaped and didn't have anyplace to go. She was abducted again on August 11, 2004, and is currently being imprisoned in a nursing home outside the Dadukou District.
The Liaoning Province Jinzhou City Forced Labor Camp has intensified their persecution against Falun Gong practitioners since the spring of 2004 and is strictly blocking the flow of information to the outside world. Practitioner Shao Minggang's life was in danger, but the labor camp refused to release him. The labor camp turned down requests for visits from the families of practitioners Liu Wansheng, Wang Xiaoming, Jia Jingwen, and Cao Jianxin. These practitioners were known to be severely underweight because of the torture, and it is unknown whether they are dead or alive.
My name is Zou Cairong. I am a Falun Gong practitioner from Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province. I was illegally arrested on September 16, 2002, and sentenced to two years in prison. On April 1, 2003, I was sent to the Harbin City Women's Prison. At that time, the prison refused to take me because I had severe scabies all over my body, so I was sent back to Jiamusi City. On July 31, 2003, I was again sent to the Harbin City Women's Prison. At first they wouldn't take me because of the scabies, but the prison finally admitted me, in violation of its legal regulations. I am still imprisoned here at this time.
Practitioner Li Wentao from Tangyuan County, Heilongjiang Province, went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong in 1999. After returning home, he was illegally imprisoned for 15 days and fined 5,000 yuan. On January 26, 2003, the police confiscated Li's household belongings and kidnapped him to the police station. Afterwards he was sentenced to labor reform for two years. During this time, the "instructors" in the Jiamusi Forced Labor Camp forced him to sift red beans by hand. Although Li appeared to be sick and the Jiamusi Chinese clinic diagnosed him with abnormal bone growth on the spinal column, the labor camp wouldn't allow him to rest and forced him to do intensive labor in spite of his illness. Li was released on August 18, 2004.
My name is Zhang Yan. I am 38 years old, and I am from Liujiazhuang in Zhucheng City, Shandong Province. On March 16, 2004, the police from the Renmin Road Police Station abducted me and tortured me in many different ways. They cuffed my hands and chained my legs like a prisoner on death row. They tried to deceive me by pretending to be friendly and then threatening. They said if I continued to practice Falun Gong, I would be sentenced to three to seven years in prison, and they assured me that once I was sentenced, my whole family, and especially my children, would suffer. Because my family believed what they said they were all terrified.
My name is Gao Penglian. I am female, 53 years old. I am from Lizhang Village, Shiqiaozi Town in Zhucheng City, Shandong Province. Practicing Falun Gong gave me a new life. I went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong in June 2000 and was arrested by the National Security Bureau. They sent me to a police station, where I was illegally body-searched, beaten, and verbally abused. They stole my money and humiliated me. In September, while I was working at the farm, they lied to me and locked me inside the Zhencheng Education Building for more than 10 days. In December 2000, I went to Beijing again and was taken to a police station. The police interrogated me, searched me, beat me, and harassed me. My head was bleeding from the beating. I was then taken to a prison and locked up for a month. They forced my family to pay 2,500 yuan. Later I was illegally imprisoned twice more and brutally tortured. They released me only because my family paid them money.
My name is Wang Shuyang. I am a former employee of the Weifang Cotton Textile Factory in Shandong Province. My husband Gao Aiquan worked at a power plant. In September 2000, the power plant tried to force him to give up the practice of Falun Gong. At first, they locked him up in the plant after work and stopped his pay. Gradually they wouldn't allow him to work and locked him up in the plant, and wouldn't let him go home. Finally, when my husband went on a hunger strike to protest the illegal imprisonment, he was released. In December 2000, I went to Beijing to appeal to stop the persecution of Falun Gong, and I was illegally sent to prison. Later they sent me to Weifang City's liaison office in Beijing. My work place took me back and locked me in the communication room in the south plant, and wouldn't allow me to go home. They forced me into writing the "Three Statements," extorted money from me, and threatened me.
Ms. Liang Yongfeng is a Falun Gong practitioner from Baoding City in Xushui County, Hebei Province. She went to Beijing to appeal on December 5, 2000, and was illegally sent to the Baoding Forced Labor Camp for a two-year term. She was brutally tortured with a myriad of inhumane methods: beatings, kicking, physical abuse, shocks with electric batons, being put on the "Death Bed">Death Bed," and sleep deprivation. The labor camp wouldn't release her even after she'd served her term. They sent her to the brainwashing center in Xushui County. She was again brutally tortured in the brainwashing center. The "610 Office" ruined Liang's family. It forced her to divorce her husband, threatened her daughter and disrupted her daughter's learning environment, and caused her mental trauma.
On May 10, 2004, officer Liu Yuesheng from Baoding City Forced Labor Camp in Hebei Province led other officers to drag practitioner Liu Xinjun to the fourth floor and cuff him on a bed. They used electric batons to shock Liu Xinjun's neck, hands, and shoulders late into the night, trying to force him to give up Falun Gong. Liu Xinjun started to vomit after a week. On August 17, Liu fainted and hit his head forcefully on the ground. For some time he was in a coma and could not eat. On August 20 Liu Yuesheng led a group of officers to shock Liu Xinjun with electric batons again. That night Liu Xinjun started to vomit blood. However, Liu Yuesheng claimed that Liu Xinjun snuck out of the labor camp. On August 22, Liu Xinjun vomited blood many times and had spasms. He looked pale and was sent to a hospital.
Since July 18, 2004, the police in Bangfu City, Anhui Province, have frequently searched and illegally arrested Falun Gong practitioners. They have taken practitioners' computers and printers. Zhong Yongxiang, director of the political security division of the Bangfu City Longzihu District Police Station, has long been aggressively participating in abducting practitioners. Zhong has openly set a price range and blackmails the practitioners. Zhang Peijie, a male employee of the political security division of the Bangfu City Bangshan Police Station, and Assistant Director Liu have been aggressively participating in persecuting practitioners and confiscating their household property. They take any cash and valuables they find. They even frame practitioners by planting Falun Gong materials at the practitioners' homes and using it as evidence to persecute them.
