(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Tan Guoyi, a practitioner from the City of Hegang in Heilongjiang Province, suffered constant harassment and persecution by the police. Mr. Tan died on July 3, 2004 because of the persecution he and his family faced. Mr. Tan was 67 years old.
On June 29, 2002, Chen Fenglian and Huo Fengyun from the Xin'an community, Dongshan district, Hegang city, reported Mr. Tan to the police. Officers from the Dongshan District Xinyi Police Station, Yang Maobiao, Wang Cai, and Xiao Chunquan, confiscated Tan's personal property and took him to the Hegang city second prison. Tan suffered from pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) while he was in prison and was sent to the hospital. Tan did not have money to have his illness treated and was sent home. Officers Yang Maobiao, Wang Cai, and Xiao Chunquan, often went to Tan's house at night to harass him. If Tan's family refused to open the door, the officers would threaten them with guns.
The two people who reported Tan to the police, Chen Fenglian and Huo Fengyun, went to Tan's house every other day and threatened that they would report him to the community twice daily. Chen and Huo also ordered people to break Tan's glass windows and ordered Tan's neighbors to monitor Tan and his family's activities. Tan lost the environment to study and do the Falun Gong exercises and couldn't afford a normal daily schedule. Tan missed his son, who was also a practitioner and who had been sentenced to nine years in prison because of practicing Falun Gong. Mr. Tan's fourth daughter was sentenced to 3 years in a force labor camp. Tan had many worries. The police were looking for his oldest daughter and his youngest daughter might also be arrested because of practicing Falun Gong. Mr. Tan has two young grandsons who need to be taken care of, and his wife was ill. Tan's health condition was getting worse and eventually caused his death on July 3, 2004.
