(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Dafa practitioners Ms. Wan Xiuying, 57 years old, and Ms. Dong Guiyun, 62, from Tongliao City were arrested. Immediately after Wan Xiuying was taken in, she went on a hunger strike to protest the illegal detention. She left the detention center in an upright and dignified manner after being there for twelve days.
Details About Their Arrest
At about 3:00 a.m. on April 29, 2004, Dafa practitioners Wan Xiuying and Dong Guiyun were arrested by patrolmen from the Tienan Police Station while pasting up posters about rescuing practitioner Tian Fan in the court dormitory building. After they were arrested, more than ten officers verbally abused Wan Xiuying and Dong Guiyun and prohibited them from using the restroom. Wan Xiuying and Dong Guiyun sent forth righteous thoughts unceasingly, all the while clarifying the truth to the police. The police who cursed at them began to fall asleep and others began to read the truth clarification flyers that the practitioners had with them. All of them were surprised after they read the first issue of Words from the Heart in Tongliao (a locally produced truth-clarification publication), asking whether the information was true. The two Dafa practitioners told them everything in it was true and that they came to save people from the lies and slander of Jiang's regime. From the policemen's expressions, it was apparent that some of them were sympathetic to Falun Dafa.
At about 9:00 a.m., policeman Wang Bo from the "610 Office" [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems] took the two Dafa practitioners out of the Tienan Police Station. As soon as they were through the gate, the two Dafa practitioners spoke loudly to passers-by, "Falun Dafa is great. Falun Dafa is a righteous Way! It is a heavenly principle that 'Good is rewarded with good and evil meets with retribution.' Kind people must be clear-headed!" The people on the street all craned their necks to see what was going on. This lasted about five minutes. Then a policeman pushed the two practitioners into the police car.
When the vehicle arrived at gate of the City Police Department, the two Dafa practitioners began to speak loudly to people on the street around them and continued to do so until they entered the Police Department grounds. They shouted loudly all the way from the first floor to the fifth floor. Since it was break time for the staff, they all came out of their offices to see what was going on. Some of them smiled in support and some kept silent.
The two Dafa practitioners were detained in separate rooms with both of their hands shackled to their chairs. Bao Jirimutu, a "610 Office" policeman, looked very excited as if he had landed a really "big case." He said with excitement, "Wan Xiuying, we wanted to arrest you a long time ago. We did not do it then because your daughter Wang Ying was in poor health." Another policeman next to him began taking notes. Wan Xiuying did not say anything, but constantly sent forth righteous thoughts. Policeman Shao Jun came in after he finished reading the flyer that Ms. Wan had been posting and said, "Ms. Wan, how come you made me the responsible party for everything that was reported by Minghui.net (Clearwisdom.net) about the search of Dafa practitioner Tian Fang's home?" Wan Xiuying said with a smile, "Who has hurt you? Aren't we saving you?" Shao Jun left without saying a word. Wan Xiuying refused to cooperate when the policemen tried to take her photo.
The Policemen Looked for Their Names in "Words from the Heart in Tongliao"
In the room where Dong Guiyun was detained, policeman Cui Liancheng from the "610 Office" said, "Hurry up and check the date of the flyer." When they saw that it was dated April 28th, Cui Liancheng said, "They are so fast. It only took them two days to get this information out? Where could they have had it printed?" A policeman said, "Quick, check and see if my name is on the flyer." Another policeman said, "How could your name be omitted?"
Their Voices Shook the Detention Center
At 4:00 p.m., the police sent the two Dafa practitioners to Hexi Prison. As soon as the vehicle arrived at the gate, the Dafa practitioners began shouting loudly, "Falun Dafa is great. Falun Dafa is a righteous Way! It is a heavenly principle that 'Good will receive good and evil will receive retribution.' Kind people must be clear-headed!" The two Dafa practitioners cooperated together better and better. They continued shouting at every place they passed: the gate, the front yard, the lobby, the back yard, and the long aisle; they called out to the family members who were visiting their relatives, the prison guards, the prisoners, and to the guards at the sentry. Everyone who heard was startled the by their loud voices and they all stopped whatever they were doing. The phrase "Falun Dafa is great" echoed throughout the whole detention center.
Wang Li, Director of the detention center, who's actions have been restrained since his evil acts were exposed on Clearwisdom.net, greeted to the two Dafa practitioners by nodding his head and smiling. He asked the regular prisoners to bring two pair of slippers for the practitioners. The prisoners saw this as special treatment since every prisoner had to walk barefooted across the cold cement compound.
When the prison guards in charge of registration asked the Dafa practitioners for their names and ages, the two practitioners remained silent. The guards said, "You shouted 'Falun Dafa is great' all the way here. Why are you silent now when I ask you questions?" The two practitioners began to send forth righteous thoughts. Finally, the prison guards had to find out the information from the people in the front yard before they could book the women. The two Dafa practitioners were detained in Women's Cell No. 12.
The True Situation about Dafa Practitioner Tian Fang
As soon as the two Dafa practitioners entered the cell, they announced, "We are Falun Gong practitioners!" The female prisoners said, "Good job. We all heard it!" Practitioner Tian Fang came over happily and said, "Why were you brought in?" Wan Xiuying said, "We came because of you. We were distributing flyers outside saying that you have been on a hunger strike for twelve days. Clearwisdom.net reported it and the whole world knows about it." Tian Fang described the persecution she had endured to her two fellow practitioners.
In fact, Tian Fang had undergone three hunger strikes. They had been six days, eight days, and eleven days respectively. After experiencing so much persecution, Tian Fang was very thin, looking even thinner because of her 5' 8" height. Tian Fang also told the two Dafa practitioners that while she was on the hunger strike, she suffered the cruel persecution of being force-fed. The prison guards used a screwdriver to pry open her teeth, which caused bruising around her mouth. She mentioned that once during an interrogation, "610 Office" policeman Shao Jun intimidated her and said, "Can't you just sue me? Why don't you go ahead and try to sue me again?"
In March of this year, Clearwisdom.net reported on the persecution suffered by Tian Fang's family. In the report, there was a part about the policemen's destructively ransacking her home using the excuse that Tian Fang "will go to Beijing" [to appeal for Falun Dafa]. Tian Fang confirmed the report about her home being ransacked.
In February of this year, Tian Fang went to visit her sister Tian Miao who was detained in the women's prison in Huhehaite City, and her father Tian Fujin, who was detained in Wuyuan Forced Labor Camp. According to Chinese law, family members have the right to visit their relatives. However, when she arrived, she was not allowed to see her sister Tian Miao. As she put her belongings down, the policemen immediately asked her to leave. When she arrived at Wuyuan Forced Labor Camp, she was only given ten minutes to see her father. On her way home, Tian Fang clarified the truth of Dafa and the persecution on the bus, but was reported by a young soldier. She was detained in Xizhimen, Beijing. The next day, policemen Wang Buo and Shaojun came to "take her home," but instead, they illegally put her in the Hexi Prison using the excuse that she "would go to Beijing."
Prison Guards' Note: "Wan Xiuying is Innocent."
The police interrogated Ms. Wan Xiuying on the morning of April 30.
Bao Jirimutu, now the head of the brigade as a result of being promoted for persecuting Tian Miao, said to Wan Xiuying, "Wan Xiuying, I know you are not an ordinary soldier. I have seen from your eyes that you look down upon me, you are not afraid of me, and you think that you are god-like." Wan Xiuying kept silent. The policeman who was taking notes said, "You have to talk to us. We will sentence you to prison even if you don't talk to us." At this time, Wan Xiuying began to talk, "I declare solemnly that I am innocent. I am saving the world's people. Falun Dafa is a righteous Way. It is you who are guilty because you illegally detained me. I absolutely won't accept it!" Later, when the police published the official note, it had been abbreviated to one sentence that read, "Wan Xiuying is innocent."
Details about Ms. Wan Xiuying's Hunger Strike
Wan Xiuying began a hunger strike as soon as she was detained in the Hexi Detention Center. It was May 1, Labor Day. Nobody paid attention to it. With sympathy, the prisoners said to her, "Please eat. Dafa practitioner Ding Liyan had gone on a hunger strike for 50 days and was only taken out when she was on the brink of death. It is rumored that she died." Wan Xiuying said, "Ding Liyan is still alive." But they did not believe her. (See http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2004/1/28/44487.html for a detailed report on the persecution of Ms. Ding Liyan.) Every one of them tried to persuade Wan Xiuying to eat. Wan Xiuying said, "I am not committing suicide by going on a hunger strike. I am using this method to oppose the persecution. Don't worry, I won't die. I truly don't want to die."
On the eighth day of the hunger strike, Mu Rigen, the deputy director of the detention center, and Doctor Ma from the detention center came to persuade Wan Xiuying to eat, saying that they would force her to eat if she refused because they were responsible for her. Wan Xiuying solemnly said, "I absolutely won't allow you to force-feed me. Among more than 100,000 Dafa practitioners detained in prisons in China, do you know how many have died from force-feeding? I previously had a heart attack. Now I am healthy because I practice Falun Gong. If you endanger my life by force-feeding me, legally, you must be held completely accountable! You can silence me, but you cannot silence the other 19 prisoners in the cell. You have to be responsible for your own actions!" Then Wan Xiuying described the persecution suffered by Tian Fang's family and the details of her own daughter, Wang Ying, being persecuted until she was disabled. They listened attentively to her. From their expressions, she could tell that they had developed sympathy and kindness towards Dafa practitioners.
On the 11th day of her hunger strike, prison guard Wu Yuen came to talk with Wan Xiuying. Wan Xiuying clarified the truth and told her about the persecution suffered by Tian Fang's family. Wu Yuen listened earnestly and was touched. She said, "Previously, I was a friend of Wang Ying and Tian Miao." (Wu Yuen's former evil actions were exposed by Tang Liwen, a Dafa practitioner from Tongliao City. The report titled "Tang Liwen from Tongliao, Inner Mongolia, Exposed the Evil Actions of Wang Li and Wu Yuen in Hexi Detention Center" was published on May 4, 2004 on Minghui.net. For an account in English, refer to http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2004/5/13/48012.html)
By May 10, Wan Xiuying had been on a hunger strike for twelve days. On that afternoon, Zu Ling headed five people from the local Police Department to take Wan Xiuying home. Wan Xiuying was carried to the vehicle. In this manner, Wan Xiuying was unconditionally sent home without being fingerprinted, photographed, and without signing any statement.
When they arrived at Wang Xiuying's home, the authorities called and informed Wang Zhe, Wan Xiuying's son. When he saw that his mother was emaciated, he began crying, asking, "Mom, is that you? How did you become like this?" Wang Zhe fiercely asked the police, "You have parents too. Do you have no conscience at all? How could you bring her home in this condition?" After he carried his mother upstairs, Wang Zhe went downstairs to pursue the matter further, but Zu Ling and his group had already disappeared.
Information about Dong Guiyun
After Wan Guiying left the detention center, it was said that both Dong Guiyun and Tian Fang began a hunger strike. On May 11, Shao Jun from the "610 Office" notified Dong Guiyun's family to prepare 3,000 yuan [500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China] and told them that they would release her on May 18. The family members said, "No money!" Then Zuling said, "2,000 will be alright too."
On the morning of May 13, Dong Guiyun's eldest daughter went to the City Police Department to pick up her mother. When she asked to speak with Shao Jun, he was not there. Zu Ling said, "Didn't we tell you to come May 18 and to bring the bail money with you?" Dong Guiyun's daughter said, "If you want money, we have it! I was told that my mother was on a hunger strike. She previously had a heart attack. My father has been too worried to eat. So, it is no longer a matter of one life this time. It is now two lives you are dealing with!" Zu Ling quickly asked, "Who said that your mother is on a hunger strike? Your mother looks even heavier than before." Zu Ling then asked Dong Guiyun's daughter to leave. Her daughter said, "I won't come again and I will wait for you to bring my mother back home. You must bring send her back in the same condition that she was in when you took her away!"
