Chinese man's shooting probed
Johannesburg - Police were still investigating the shooting of a Falun Gong member in Johannesburg on Monday, a spokesperson said on Friday.
David Liang was shot in both feet shortly after his arrival in South Africa, while driving with a group of supporters to Pretoria to stage protests against visiting Chinese vice-president Zeng Qinghong and his minister of commerce Bo Xilai for alleged human rights abuses.
The group alleges that it was an assassination attempt by the Chinese government, which has since denied the allegation.
"We are still investigating, but cannot provide any details yet," Gauteng police spokesperson Dennis Adriao said.
Meanwhile, the group planned a protest in Garrick Street, near Bruma Lake in eastern Johannesburg on Friday afternoon.
A spokesperson, Sven Olausson, said that Liang's one foot was still serious and discussions were under way to fly him back home to Australia.
