(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Meng Lingchuan, 45 years old, was the Head of Guanzhuang Town's Agricultural Seeds Station in Puji Township, Zhangqiu City, Shandong Province. On New Year's Day of 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and was taken to the Zhangqiu Detention Center. A month later, he and another practitioner Du Wanxin was sentenced to 3 years of forced labor in the Liuchangshan Forced Labor Camp. Meng and his family members have suffered both mental and physical anguish since his incarceration.
His family was put in a difficult financial situation when he was detained at the labor camp. His daughter, an undergraduate student at Jinan University, faced the possibility of being dismissed from the school because she was unable to pay her tuition. She always cried when she went to visit her father at the labor camp. Many people who saw them couldn't help but shed tears. Several of them privately said, "They even send a kind person like Mr. Meng here. His daughter cannot even pay her tuition. What kind of a society do we live in?"
During his time in the labor camp, Meng suffered brutal beatings and was confined in a small cell because he refused to renounce his belief in the principle of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" under force. In the winter 2001, practitioner Liu Jian was intentionally pushed from the third floor of a building in the labor camp and died as a result. Meng went on a hunger strike for 2 months to protest the brutal murder of his fellow practitioner.
Even though he was already subjected to severe mental pressure combined with violence, the deputy chief officer of the third section Bao Hongxin, the chief police leader of the First Team in the Third Section Du Qijun, and the deputy chief police leader of the First Team Zhang Wei, still escalated their torture of Meng. Among the three persecutors, Zhang Wei was considered to be the most brutal in torturing Falun Gong practitioners, so he could increase his chances of receiving rewards and get promoted. Following orders from Bao Hongxin, both Du Qijun and Zhang Wei confined Meng in a damp, dark cell and assigned several cellmates to monitor his every action, even when he washed his face, brushed his teeth and used the toilet. They also prevented Meng from talking with other Falun Dafa practitioners.
Their authorities strategy was obvious in their attempts to apply more mental pressure on Mr. Meng when he had already been subjected to a relentless amount of mental anguish resulting from the various tortures inflicted upon him. Meng was not permitted to take a bath or change his clothes for 2 months. He was not allowed to speak to anyone for a long time and kept in complete isolation. When he began to display symptoms of being disoriented, policeman Zhang Wei still forced Meng to do heavy labor. One day, Zhang reported on Meng, claiming that Meng had cursed him and even attempted to hit him with a chair. During that time, only the cellmates who were assigned to monitor Meng were the witnesses. Although Meng told people that he had never cursed or assaulted Zhang Wei, chief officer Bao Hongxin, Zhang Wei and Du Qijun still fabricated a report with the cellmates claiming to be eyewitnesses as evidence. They sent the report to the labor camp authorities and Law Enforcement Bureau, requesting a month extension in his labor camp term. Their superiors approved the request.
When Meng Lingchuan's symptoms got worse, both his family members and fellow practitioners requested that the labor camp to release him so that he could obtain medical treatment numerous times. Bao Hongxin denied all of their requests.
Meng was released in September of 2003. His psychological condition has improved since his return home, but he is still not able to take care of himself. The mental and physical tortures that Meng suffered were only a small example of the severity of the persecution against Falun Gong practitioners in China. During the past 5 years, many people have lost their jobs, families have been torn apart, and practitioners have lost their lives just because they refuse to give up their belief in "Truth-Compassion-Tolerance."
