Facts of the Persecution

On July 7, 2004, Qiaoxi Court of Xingtai City, Hebei Province put nine Falun Dafa practitioners on trial, including Ms. Huo Guilan, Mr. Zhang Baozhong, Ms. Yang Qinghu (Zhang Baozhong's wife), Ms. Wang Jizhu, Ms. Feng Wenping, Ms. Xia Yunxing, Mr. Dou Minxu, Ms. Zhang Zhihong, and Ms. Ren Haixiang. Ms. Huo Guilan defended her own innocence. Ms. Yang Qinghua told the judges, "I did not produce the VCDs on my own. You can play the disk, and I can prove it to you. You cannot make up crimes based on this." The judges had nothing to say in return.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Wang Li was a journalist employed by the Middle-South Station of China Women Daily, and was named one of "Ten Young Role Models" in Wuhan City, Hubei Province. Her story was broadcasted on the CCTV television program "Eastern Time-Zone." She was abducted by police in May 2004, and after two months, still no one knows her whereabouts.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhang Suwen is a 65-year-old retiree from a state-owned cotton textile factory. She went to Beijing to appeal in December 2000, and was detained for 33 days in the Xinle County Detention Center. She was later sentenced to a forced labor camp, but was bailed out for medical treatment. After that, she left her home to avoid being wrongfully arrested there. Two years later, on June 22, 2004, because she informed her employer of the facts, she was locked in a provincial brainwashing class.

Inside the Xinkaipu Labor Camp in Changsha City, Hunan Province, Falun Dafa practitioners Mr. Li Hui, Mr. Huang Wusong, and Mr. Wang Kuimei were detained multiple times and beaten by police officer Jiang, or sent to a small cell (1). When practitioners went on hunger strike to protest the persecution, police officer Jiang instructed prisoners to force-feed them. They used metal pliers to force open practitioners' mouths, thus injuring their mouths. Some practitioners' heads became swollen from the abuse. Practitioners suffered through horrible conditions in the small cells. For example, Mr. Liao Kaiyun was put in a strait jacket while in the small cell.

Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Yin Lanying was an employee of the Huaihua Railroad in Hunan Province. She was violently abducted on September 27, 2001, and police sent her to the Baimalong Labor Camp in Zhuzhou City while she was still unconscious. Her term there was later extended. She was abducted again on August 23, 2003 for posting truth-clarifying materials, and was detained. She held a hunger strike for 13 days before being unconditionally released, but on December 18, 2003 she was abducted again. She held a hunger strike without water to protest. On December 22, the doctors found that her left kidney was damaged, her spleen had shrunk, and she also had a heart problem. Police then released her.

Notes:

(1) Small cell - The detainee is locked up in a very small cell alone. The small cell is very damp, and has no exposure to sunlight. Detainees have to urinate and defecate in the cell. Only half of a regular meal is served to detainees locked up in a small cell during the daytime.
