Mr. Wang Qirong, 78, passed away on March 14, 2003, due to stress from the persecution of his family by the government officials who frequently went to his home and harassed them.
Before practicing Falun Gong, Mr. Wang had coronary heart disease, hypertension, and arthritis and had spent long periods of time in the hospital. Amazingly, all his illnesses went away after he began practicing in 1996. He operated a very successful food wholesale business on Changjiang Street at Fengman District in Jilin City. The whole family with its 9 people of four generations got along very well, and all the neighbors and customers felt that they were a happy family.
After Jiang Zemin began his persecution of Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, Mr. Wang's daughter, daughter-in-law, grandson, and granddaughter-in-law were all sentenced to three years of forced labor because of their belief in Falun Gong. The police extorted tens of thousands of yuan from his granddaughter-in-law. His daughter and daughter-in-law were allowed parole to get medical help after they had been severely tortured. However, in October 2002, Mr. Wang's daughter was abducted by government officials from Fengman District "610 Office" in Jilin City, Jiangnan Police Station, and Jiangnan Street Association. They sent her to a brainwashing center for 63 days and forced her to pay 2,400 yuan for her food before releasing her. These officials also frequently went to Mr. Wang's wholesale food store to harass his family and customers.
On March 13, 2003, a group of officials went to Mr. Wang's house to arrest his daughter. Since she was not there, the officials began to harass Mr. Wang instead, which caused him extreme anxiety and emotional trauma. As a result, he died on March 14, after he was taken to Jiangnan 465 Air Force Hospital for emergency rescue.
