Facts about the Persecution
1. [Jinan City, Shandong Province] As of September 2004, there were over 120 Falun Dafa practitioners illegally jailed at the No. 1 Forced Labor Camp in Jinan City. When the practitioners refused to put on the inmate uniforms, the labor camp authorities forced them to wear the uniforms. Officers made practitioners work extremely long hours. Anyone who refused was tortured by being bound with ropes, handcuffed, and locked in a mini-cell. Only one half-hour break was allowed for them to eat. Practitioners worked from 8 a.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning. Practitioners who did not renounce Falun Dafa were handcuffed to radiators and forced to stand for seven days.

2. [Baihe County, Shanxi Province] Since July 22, 1999, Director of the Baihe County Police Department Gao Yukun, Deputy Director Chen Hongen, and the local National Security Brigade Captain Du Aimin began a large scale persecution of practitioners. Practitioner Mr. Zhang Xianbin was illegally detained at the Baihe County Detention Center for two days. On August 16, 1999, he handed in an appeal letter to the Baihe County government but was detained illegally for another 30 days. Since then he has been under surveillance and threatened and harassed in various forms. In December 1999, Mr. Zhang opened a clothing store in the county capital. On December 21, Gao Yukun, Du Aimin, and Chen Hongen abducted and detained Mr. Zhang again, this time for 63 days. On July 19, 2000, they detained Mr. Zhang for another 30 days. On December 10, 2000, Mr. Zhang went to Beijing to appeal, as provided in the Chinese Constitution, but was arrested and escorted back to Baihe County by Du Aimin. Zhao Zhenhai, the head of the Baihe County 610 Office put Mr. Zhang into the Zaozihe Forced Labor Camp, Shanxi Province, for three years. On July 14, 2004, not long after Mr. Zhang was released from the labor camp, officials from the Nanshan Police Station in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, abducted him again. The officials used the pretext that the contents of Mr. Zhang's personal letters related to Falun Gong. After he was sent back to Baihe County, police officers Han Guoqing, Huang Yong, Wang Man, Zhang Ming, and Tang Zeshun monitored his home 24 hours a day and harassed him for one month. Mr. Zhang clarified the truth of Falun Dafa to Zhao Zhenhai and Wang Taifang many times. Now he has been forced to leave home to avoid further persecution. Since the police confiscated his ID card, it's hard for him to find job.

3. [Xilinguole Meng (1), Inner Mongolia] In Baochang Town, Taipusi Qi (2), a two-year-old girl frequently says to others, "Why arrest my mom? Why arrest good people? Return my mom! Let my mom come back." Her name is Yingying. Sometimes she wakes up in the middle of the night crying for her mother. Ms. Duan Songping is Yingying's mother. From Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province, she is 32. Since Ms. Duan and her husband are both Falun Dafa practitioners, they have suffered under the persecution and in 2000 were forced to leave their hometown to avoid further harassment. On the afternoon of November 15, 2004, Ms. Duan clarified the truth of Falun Dafa to people at the Ximeng Minorities' Vocational College. But Chen Shaoguo from the Student's Section of the Medical Department reported her to department officer Guo Ligang and security staff member Zhang. Guo, along with others, then reported Ms. Duan to the Xilinhaote Police Department. Police officers abducted Ms. Duan and took her to the city detention center, where she was tortured while being interrogated. National Security team leader Bao Shan shouted, "Practicing Falun Gong is anti-revolution, anti-communist party, and against the (Chinese) government!" Ms. Duan went on a hunger strike for over ten days to protest the persecution. The local National Security Brigade Captain, Chen Tiejun, Bao Shan, and the Police Department's Judicial Section Chief Shen Li colluded to secretly send Ms. Duan to the First Brigade of the Women's Forced Labor Camp of Huhehaote City for a three-year term on November 26, 2004.

Once the persecution of Falun Dafa started, he went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Dafa, but he was arrested and detained at the Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp in Beijing. On October 6, 2004, when he went to the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp to visit fellow practitioners, he was abducted and detained again at the forced labor camp.

5. [Lanzhou City, Gansu Province] The Lanzhou City 610 Office urged the brainwashing centers to produce a certain "reform" rate, and attached these rates to the year-end incentives. In these circumstances, police officers at the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center tortured practitioners very brutally in order to get the year-end bonuses. Practitioner Ms. Ma Yun is of Hui nationality (one of the larger minorities in China) and is an employee of the Lanzhou City Tourism Bureau. She was arrested in January 2000 and illegally sentenced to three years in prison. At the end of the three-year term, she was sent to the Gaolanshan Brainwashing Center for further persecution. In April of that year, Ms. Ma was transferred to the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center, where she suffered terribly for more than a year. In July 2004, authorities from the brainwashing center sent Ms. Ma to the local women's prison. Since Ms. Ma had no new "criminal" record, the prison transferred her back to the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center. Ms. Ma is still being held there illegally. Mr. Fang Jianping is an employee of the Lanzhou Minbai Group. He was arrested in May 2001 and detained at the Dashaping Detention Center in Lanzhou City. Later in July that same year, Mr. Fang was sent to the Pingantai Forced Labor Camp to serve a two-year term. Since he refused to give up his belief in Falun Dafa and write the "Three Statements," on May 2, 2003, he was sent from the labor camp to the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center. In November 2003, he was shut up in a dark room and brutally tortured by a group led by Yan Yongsheng in order to "transform" him.

6. [Shandong Province] Police officers Wang Shuzhen, Sun Xiufeng, and others at the No. 1 Women Forced Labor Camp of Shandong Province tortured practitioners brutally. Taian City's practitioner Ms. Wang Yan went on a hunger strike to protest, but she was force-fed twice a day. Sometimes the feeding tube would be left in her mouth for several days and even over ten days. After several months on hunger strike, Ms. Wang's weight had dropped to only about 25 to 30 kg (55 to 65 lb). Practitioner Ms. Li Xiaoping from Jinan City went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. While being force-fed, she resisted, so officers bound her to a bed. Then two collaborators were assigned to brainwash and force-feed her every day. After over six months of this inhuman treatment, Li Xiaoping finally yielded under the pressure and wrote a "Guarantee Statement" against her will. But she was still sentenced to five years in prison and was sent to Jinan Prison. Ms. Yang Yurong is an engineer from the Qilu Petroleum Chemical Group. Since she refused to be "transformed" and give up practicing Falun Dafa, she was repeatedly sent to a mental hospital, where she was injected with drugs that destroyed her central nervous system. After this ill-treatment, she suffered a mental breakdown.
