(Clearwisdom.net) Just after 10:00 a.m. on May 7, 2001, several people forcibly entered the home of Falun Gong practitioner Li Xianglan in Chenjia Village. The perpetrators, who showed no legal documentation, included Cao Jinhui and Zhu Wei, both from the Political and Security Section of the Zhucheng City Police Department, Zhang Ke, who was at that time the head of Linjiacun Town Police Station, Wang Zhigang, who was the party secretary in Chenjia Village, and Wang Tinglin, who was the head of security for Chenjia Village. Police officers Zhu Wei and Zhang Ke searched Li Xianglan's house and found some Dafa truth-clarifying materials near the bed, information that exposed how Jiang's scoundrel regime frames Falun Gong. They also found Falun Dafa lecture tapes, and a tape player. They confiscated all these things and took Li Xianglan to the Linjiacun Town Police Station. While this was happening, they also illegally harassed other people in the same town who are affiliated with Falun Gong.
Li Xianglan's family members were very frightened. Since they felt ashamed that someone from the family was arrested, they didn't have the courage to go to the police station, just half a kilometer away, to inquire about this situation. Li Xianglan's husband was a naïve man. The family simply trusted the oral promise of the village party branch secretary, Wang Zhigang, who said, "I will tell the village head to bring her back in the afternoon. Nothing will happen to her."
Li Xianglan, born in 1953, was a farmer's wife. She had several illnesses due to years of heavy farm work and family burdens. In 1998 she started to practice Falun Gong. All her illnesses were subsequently cured and she completely recovered. Li Xianglan often encouraged her relatives and friends to practice Falun Gong, and said that Falun Gong was really a great practice.
Since practicing Falun Gong, Li Xianglan's relationship with her daughter-in-law and her mother-in-law improved and became much more harmonious. One time, when she discovered that a vendor in the market had given her 3 yuan too much change, she walked under the scorching sun more than 1.5 kilometers (a bit less than one mile) back to the market to return the money. Using her own experiences, Ms. Li often introduced Falun Gong to others and told people how Falun Gong could benefit them physically and mentally.
Ever since Jiang Zemin's regime began to cruelly persecute Falun Gong, Li Xianglan often went out to distribute truth-clarifying materials and to hang Dafa banners in the market or along the roads. Li Xianglan validated Falun Dafa through her speech and actions. She let people know that "Falun Dafa is the righteous Fa," and exposed the Communist government's deception and lies, to offer salvation to the countless deceived sentient beings.
At about 4:00 p.m., when Village Security Head Wang Tinglin arrived at the local police station, Li Xianglan had already been beaten very badly. She arrived back at her house after 11:00 p.m. and walked with great difficulty into the room. She said to her husband, "They want me to go to there again at 5:00 a.m. tomorrow." Her husband asked, "Did they beat you?" "Did you think they would not?" The short conversation was the last one they had in this life. Ms. Li's husband was in a bad mood and quickly went to bed.
When he woke up early next morning a bit past 4:00 a.m., he discovered that Li Xianglan was not in the room. He quickly went out to look for her and found her lying down in the yard. He was so shocked that he dropped to his knees and was unable to move. He hurriedly called his daughter and son-in-law nearby. They carried Li Xianglan into the room and put her on the bed.
Li Xianglan was already dead. They then noticed that Ms. Li's legs were all covered with bruises and some portions of her legs were without skin. Her face was also bloody and full of bruises. Her husband felt so pained to see this. He couldn't understand how a healthy person was tortured to death overnight. He regretted not having resisted his wife's illegal arrest, and regretted not having gone to the police station to ask for her release. He knew it was not wrong to be a good person who followed the teachings of Falun Dafa, and he regretted not asking his wife about her detention after she returned home and not giving her a bowl of water, or asking whether or not she had eaten. She had probably missed three meals. Seeing that his wife died covered with wounds, he couldn't handle such a brutal sequence of events.
After daybreak, the neighbors and the relatives arrived after learning of this incident. The Linjiacun Town Police Station head, Zhang Ke, arrived with some of his people as well. (Zhang Ke had previously accompanied the municipal 610 Office perpetrators to harass practitioners many times. After July 20, 1999, when the persecution began, he had closely followed Jiang Zemin to persecute Falun Gong. This evildoing man, Zhang Ke, had gathered the town's practitioners together and threatened and tried to force them to write the so-called Guarantee Statements. He often drove around at night to monitor practitioners.)
Li Xianglan's family called the emergency number, "110." It took the police three hours to get there, a distance that should have been covered in just 20 minutes! Many police officers arrived. Several plainclothes officers hung around in the crowd and tried to stop the crowd from discussing the cause of Ms. Li's death. Some stood in front of the bed to stop people from approaching any closer. People from the Judiciary Court, the police department, and legal medical experts from Weifang Medical College ignored the wounds that covered Ms. Li's body and immediately wanted to do an autopsy. Li Xianglan's family knew their devious plot, that they were trying to find something to support their predetermined cause of death • suicide. Li Xianglan's family refused permission for an autopsy. The guilty parties evaded the fact of Li Xianglan having wounds all over her body. They said, "She must have fallen down and injured herself when she walked back from the police station." So far it is still a mystery as to how Li Xianglan managed to return home from the police station.
According to specific legal procedures, the police should have escorted Li Xianglan back home or asked the family to come and pick her up. During the dark night, how could such a person who was beaten to the brink of death come home by herself? If her wounds were caused from tumbling while walking, how could there be wounds behind her ears, wounds under her armpit and on the inside of her thigh? And what accounts for the dense and numerous footprints, covered with blood on the front of her lower legs? Apparently they were from having been violently kicked.
It is reasonable and not wrong to be a good person, following the principles of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." Such a good person has been beaten to death. How can such an injustice be tolerated by Heaven?
Later, during a routine examination at the Jiankou Crematorium, a hole as wide as a chopstick was found on Li Xianglan's skull. It clearly showed that police, led by Cao Jinhui, had subjected Ms. Li Xianglan to brutal and fatal tortures.
Li Xianglan's daughter and her son-in-law tried to take photos of Li Xianglan's injuries, but the police stopped them. Before this happened, when officers from the police department walked into the room and saw Ms. Li's body, one of them couldn't help but immediately exclaim, "How could someone be beaten to such a degree?"
Cao Jinhui was known among these police officers as a "drunken hatchet man." There were so many practitioners who suffered from his frenzied verbal abuse and barbaric beatings. Other officers immediately called him out of the room and talked to him in the yard. Later they came in and said, "She might have drunk some poison and committed suicide."
There was a shed about 100 meters (approximately 330 feet) away from the place where Li Xianglan was found, where farm chemicals and other farm implements were stored, a fact that Ms. Li's family mentioned to the police.
At around 9:00 a.m., the town police station chief, Zhang Ke, and the village party secretary went to that shed and remained there for 40 or 50 minutes. What did they do there? At around 10:00 a.m., a young legal medical expert from the police department told Li Xianglan's family members, relatives and the neighbors to leave the room, with the excuse of "needing to take pictures." The door was shut tightly. Ten minutes later the family members were allowed to enter the room. When they entered the room, they observed the young medical expert taking a pair of black scissors and an empty package of "Wanling," a type of farm chemical, from the desk and putting them into his briefcase. Since about 4:00 a.m. many people had been in the room. The police, the village leaders. and neighbors, and no one had seen that pair of black scissors and the empty "Wanling" package. When Ms. Li's family asked people about them, the village security head said, "I have been here since 4:00 a.m. or longer, and I didn't see a pair of black scissors and the empty 'Wanling' package at all." Where did this stuff come from? Li Xianglan's family said they had never had those things in the home.
Several police authorities recorded statements about the case from Li Xianglan's family in the village committee's office. However, when they eventually verified the written records, the authorities had skipped many important details and only kept some trivial things in the report. The family tried to challenge them but had no success. Those so-called "executors of the law" had already decided on their own scheme.
In order to prevent Ms. Li's body from decomposing on such a hot day, the family decided to freeze the body at the crematorium. The Political and Law head of Lijiacun Town and the head of the town government, Pang Shourong, went there as well. When Li Xianglan's family took her body to the crematorium, the town police station head Zhang Ke followed behind in a car. He was afraid the family would take the body to appeal to a higher authority. He turned around and left when they were close to the crematorium.
Han Xiangguo, Lijiacun Town's Party Secretary at that time, was an accomplice to Jiang's scoundrel regime. After July 20, 1999 he called practitioners in the town to have a mass criticizing meeting, and required practitioners to publicly state their stand on Falun Dafa. Some people who just had been to the practice site where Master Li Hongzhi's video lectures were shown were called as well. At the meeting, Han Xiangguo slandered Dafa and Master, and made fun of the practitioners. He was the one who was definitely responsible for Li Xianglan's death.
On the afternoon of that same day, when Li Xianglan's family brought her body to the crematorium, Han Xiangguo dispatched Wang Yongfu, an assistant from the Home Affairs Office, and Guan Fengxin, from the Town People's Congress, to persuade Li Xianglan's husband to cremate the body first, telling him that the other issues were easy to solve. They apparently wanted to destroy the evidence and to settle the issue quietly. At the same time, Ms. Li's daughter and her son-in-law who worked in the city suffered pressure from the municipal 610 Office through the City Party Committee. They were told to cremate the body as soon as possible and were threatened that if they appealed, they would have to leave their jobs.
A simple and honest country woman started to learn Falun Gong in order to be healed of painful illnesses. She conducted herself according to the principles of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" and tried to be a good person. However, the murderers from Jiang's regime took her life in a most barbaric way and even after killing her, pronounced her as having committed suicide. Such an injustice will not be tolerated by Heaven! Under threats from the police, Ms. Li's family had to agree to the police arrangements, and hurriedly cremated the body.
Li Xianglan's family consulted a lawyer. The lawyer said, "Jiang's persecution of Falun Gong was a political movement and no one dares to touch it. No judiciary courts would handle such a case, and if anyone accepted the case, the 610 Office would pressure the judiciary bureau to cancel the lawyer's license." The lawyer also told the family, "Any such 'political movement' from the higher authorities to persecute good people will eventually be redressed," and suggested that the family keep the evidence.
