Press Release: April 11th 2005
On March 7th 2005, a young married Chinese couple and their two children were deported to their homeland, China. On Saturday, the husband was taken to a slave labor camp. They had applied for asylum, because they practiced Falun Gong. Regrettably, the authorities believed it to be an invalid application. They believed that the young couple wanted to stay in Germany [for other reasons]. They did not believe them. Therefore, they denied the asylum request. The German Falun Gong Association had vouched for them and submitted a statement declaring them to be Falun Gong practitioners. In this statement they advised the authorities that the Chinese secret service keeps tabs on all Chinese Falun Gong practitioners living abroad. On returning to China, they will be identified from a list and in danger of being immediately arrested, tortured and murdered.
The miscarriage of justice perpetrated by the German authorities resulted in a tragedy in China. After four weeks under surveillance and interrogations for days on end, Jiang Rengzheng was arrested on Friday April 8th in Benxi, which is near the metropolitan town of Shenyang. Without legal proceedings, without a verdict and without a legal advisor, staff from the local security agency sentenced him to three years forced labor. He was torn from his wife and two children, who are facing now an uncertain fate.
In 2001, Mr. Jiang Renzheng and Ms. Guo Rui had arrived in Germany to take up studies at a local University. After a multitude of human and bureaucratic blunders, including a futile asylum request, they both absconded to stay with relatives in Norway in the spring of 2003, where they learned about Falun Gong. From that time onward they practiced Falun Gong, and took part in many activities against the persecution. They admitted their wrongdoing to the Norwegian and German authorities, in accordance with Falun Gong principles, and returned to Germany. Although the young couple showed their true character by admitting their wrongdoing, the authorities clearly did not believe them, resulting in their deportation to China.
Before being arrested, Jiang Renzheng was able to contact friends in Germany via a mobile phone and keep them abreast concerning the interrogations.
On March 17th, the Chinese security police came to Jiang's father's house for the first time. They asked Jiang about his asylum request, and informed him that the German authorities had told them everything in detail. He was asked to document all he had experienced while abroad. He refused, which brought deep distress to his father. Therefore, young Jiang was pressured from two sides. Finally he described one of the appeals outside the Chinese Embassy in Norway. Father and son were interrogated for sixteen hours, until 4 a.m. Since this interrogation, his father has changed completely. He no longer can think clearly, and at times is unable to recognize his relatives. Jiang's mother cries now most of the time.
Jiang was then interrogated for hours on end. He was shown pictures that he had sent to his parents. He was asked to make a statement, and he told them, "This is my personal affair, why are you asking all these questions?" The police chief responded, "Don't you know who you are? We have the right to scrutinize everything that has to do with you," and "You are now in China. You have to respect Chinese law and you no longer may practice Falun Gong." This particular grilling went on for three hours.
Notification: Most likely in response to the international publicity, several Chinese Government phone numbers were disabled. The mobile phone numbers of those with responsibility in the aforementioned are still active.

Background
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa (about), is a practice of meditation and exercises with teachings based on the universal principle of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." Practiced in over 60 countries worldwide, Falun Gong has roots in traditional Chinese culture. With government estimates of as many as 100 million practicing Falun Gong in China, Communist China's then-leader, Jiang Zemin, outlawed the peaceful practice in July 1999 (report). Since that time, Jiang's regime has intensified its propaganda campaign to turn public opinion against the practice while imprisoning, torturing and even murdering those who practice it. The European Falun Gong Information Center has verified details of 2,027 deaths (reports) since the persecution of Falun Gong in China began in 1999. In October 2001, however, Government officials inside China reported that the actual death toll was well over 1,600. Expert sources now estimate that figure to be much higher. Hundreds of thousands have been detained, with more than 100,000 being sentenced to forced labor camps, typically without trial.
