News Advisory:
Falun Gong practitioners will gather on Thursday in front of the Chinese Embassy
to appeal to Chinese leader Hu Jintao to end the persecution of Falun Gong.
Practitioners will also appeal to President Bush, the U.S. government and the
public at large to help rescue the innocent children whose parents were killed
or taken away due to their practice of Falun Gong. Our message to Hu Jintao, who
is coming to Washington DC to meet with President Bush on Sept. 7, will also
include:
-- Bring to justice Jiang Zemin, Luo Gan, Liu Jing, and Zhou Yongkang (the
four leading masterminds of the persecution)
-- Bring to justice the atrocious police and others who persecute Falun
Gong practitioners
-- Hu Jintao: The time that god and people give you is limited
WHEN: Sept. 1 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
WHERE: In Front of Chinese Embassy, 2300 Connecticut Ave, N.W., Washington, D.C.
Falun Gong practitioners have also requested that the U.S. government bar
Chinese Commerce Minister Bo Xilai from entering the U.S. due to his role in the
persecution of Falun Gong in China. Bo is reported to be one of the members of
Hu's delegation.
The request cites section 212(a)(2)(G) of the U.S. Immigration and
Naturalization Act, which states that foreign government officials who have
engaged in particularly severe violations of religious freedom (as defined in
Section 3 of the International Religious Freedom Act) are not allowed in the
country.
Bo Xilai is a defendant in various human rights lawsuits brought in six
countries around the world. On July 28, 2004, the United States District Court
for the District of Columbia declared defendant Bo Xilai was in default because
he failed to respond within 20 days.
Background
Within just 7 years since its public introduction in 1992, Falun Gong spread by
word-of-mouth to 100 million people, who experienced firsthand its health and
spiritual benefits. Despite its popularity 6 years ago, then-communist party
leader Jiang Zemin banned Falun Gong on July 20, 1999 out of his personal
jealousy of the popularity of this practice and the Communist nature. The
still-on-going persecution has become the most severe human rights violation in
China's history.
