(Clearwisdom.net) On August 24, 2005, on the occasion of the upcoming visit of CPC leader Hu Jintao to Canada, Member of Parliament, Peter Julian, wrote to urge Prime Minister Paul Martin, during the meetings with Hu Jintao, to raise the continuous serious violations of Human rights in China, especially the persecution of Falun Gong, which must stop. Below are paragraphs from the letter.
"Despite China's past promises, and as you are most certainly aware, serious violations of human rights continue."
"The 16th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre has now passed with little attention here in Canada. The question still remains, when will China answer for the Tiananmen massacre?"
"During your upcoming meetings Mr. Prime Minister, I ask that you call upon Hu Jintao to account for those who died in the brutal and tragic crackdown on pro-democracy students."
"Chinese authorities have in practice restricted the ability of Chinese citizens to fully enjoy freedom of association, expression, of the press, and of information, and have launched a succession of campaigns against individuals and groups such as Falun Gong/Falun Dafa, resulting in long sentences for individuals for nothing more than having peacefully exercised these rights."
"Falun Gong/Falun Dafa are peaceful practices of meditation and exercises that bases its teachings on the principles of truthfulness, compassion and tolerance. To date, more than 2,800 Falun Gong practitioners are confirmed to have died as a result of governmental persecution and repression in China. This repression must stop."
"Other groups such as workers and democracy activists have been prevented from forming and participating in peaceful associations of like-minded individuals. They have often been subject to harsh campaigns of suppression resulting in lengthy prison sentences."
"You will soon have rare opportunity Mr. Prime Minister to positively influence human rights in China."
"I urge you to take advantage of this chance on behalf of Canada and the world community and hold China's leadership to account."
