Dear President Bush,
I am writing to bring to your attention the recently disclosed atrocities in the secret Sujiatun concentration camp, Shengyang City, Liaoning Province, China. In the last two weeks, two witnesses have testified that the Chinese Communist regime uses this camp to detain thousands of Falun Gong practitioners in order to harvest their organs for profit. Afterwards, their remains are cremated to destroy the criminal evidence.
One witness, whose husband was involved in cornea removal said, "My ex-husband knew they were Falun Gong practitioners. Every surgeon knew it. At that time, they were told that persecuting Falun Gong was not counted as a crime. Instead, it was "cleaning" for the Chinese communist party. Those on the operation table were either mentally destroyed or had lost consciousness. Major targets of cornea removal were the elderly and children..."
It has been two weeks since the secret Sujiatun concentration camp was disclosed. Yet the Chinese Communism Party (CCP) has failed to respond to this news. Any response by the CCP will bring the whole world's attention to Sujiatun. It will be the worst nightmare for the CCP. However, in the meantime, I also notice there is another kind of silence--the silence of the free world. This puzzles me.
"Never Again!" This was the cry of the entire civilized world after the horrors of the Holocaust. If there are any important lessons that we want our future generations never to forget, I believe this is one of them. Silence is not neutral when genocide and slaughter are going on. It is instead, as Albert Einstein put it, being "guilty of complicity."
Sometimes being good or being evil are just simple choices in our daily lives. The world will remember a tiny woman like Ms. Miep Gies because she hid Anne Frank's family from the Nazis; history will remember a huge organization like the United Nations in the opposite way for its non-intervention policy during the 100 days of slaughter in 1994 in Rwanda, when 800,000 Rwandan were killed. The English philosopher Edmund Burke is often quoted for saying, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." I believe, Mr. President, as a Christian, you must agree with this: evil will not triumph forever. As time goes by, more truth regarding Sujiatun will emerge. The whole world will soon realize what is happening in China, and what roles the world leaders and major media are playing at this moment, when the consciousness of the entire human race is being challenged again by a most vicious tyrant.
A righteous voice may irritate the CCP regime, and may even have an impact on US-Sino relations. In the long run, however, only a China with freedom and peace will benefit the U.S. and the world. History has never seen freedom and peace associated with a totalitarian regime. As 9 million courageous Chinese people openly announce their quitting the CCP or its affiliated organizations, we know that China is peacefully embarking on a road to freedom.
The choice of speaking up or keeping silent may be far less complicated than deciding whether or not to send troops overseas, but it may mean life and death, when innocent men and women, the elderly and children are lying helpless on operating tables, waiting for their organs to be removed and the bodies to be cremated afterwards.
Mr. President, I hope you will come up with a good choice for yourself as well as for America, a choice that America will be proud of, a choice that you will be proud of telling your grandchildren in the future.
Sincerely,
(name omitted)
