(Clearwisdom.net) Wang Xi, a college professor at Shihezi City
Business College, Xinjiang, was illegally arrested on January 5, 2004. Two
months later she was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment and detained in
Xinjiang's No. 2 Jail in Urumqi City. During the first two years in jail, Ms.
Wang Xi's hands were handcuffed between the bunked beds and she was not allowed
to go to bed until 2:00 a.m. every day. Then she was handcuffed again in the
same way beginning at 4:00 a.m. Her health seriously deteriorated due to the
long-term persecution. On May 10, 2006, Ms. Wang's family members went to the
jail to see her, since according to the regulation set by the jail, there could
be visits at three-month intervals. They arrived there very early, but did not
get the permit until 11:30 a.m. Then a woman guard said they were not allowed to
see her since Ms. Wang violated jail regulations during the Labor Day holiday.
Ms. Wang's family pleaded with them, saying, "We live far away from here, so it
is not easy to get here. Please let us take a look at her!" But the guard
peremptorily said, "You can see her next time." Ms. Wang's family said to her,
"That would be three months later, what kind of regulation did Wang Xi violate?"
The guard responded impatiently, "You know what it is!"
Wang Xi was illegally sentenced to two years of forced labor in 2001 and
detained in Ulapo Forced Labor Camp.
In May of 2003, Wang Xi was released on medical parole. She lives a very
difficult life because she got divorced and lost her job. So she asked to resume
her previous work and sent a letter entitled "My experience of illegal arrest
and forced labor during the last four years" to the responsible department to
expose the inhuman treatment by the authorities. This included such things as
brutal beating, handcuffing behind the back, sleep deprivation, forced feeding,
and so on. Because of this, Wang Xi was arrested again on January 5, 2004 and
sentenced to seven years of imprisonment in March of the same year. Wang Xi
appealed several times but never got a response.
Currently, Wang Xi's family members are very much worried about her situation
and her health.
