(Clearwisdom.net) At noon on Sunday, September 23, 2007, Mr. Feng Zhigang from Huangshi City, Hubei Province was arrested by several plainclothes policemen from the Guangzhou City Police Department. The arrest took place at his home in the residential area near Zhuji Street in Guangzhou City. The home was ransacked and Falun Gong books and related equipment and materials were confiscated. It was learned that one of the plainclothes policemen had the last name of Xu.
Mr. Feng has been detained for over 10 days. His family is not allowed to visit him, so his exact situation is unknown. It is believed that he is currently detained at the Tianhe Detention Center.
Mr. Feng Zhigang (alias Xiao Li) is 30 years old. In 1996 when he worked at the Huangshi Aluminum Galvanization Factory in Huangshi City, he was recognized for several years as a model worker, and he was praised by his coworkers and neighbors. Even the local police agreed that he was an outstanding citizen.
After Jiang Zemin's gang started the persecution of Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, the local Tuanchengshan Police Station and Mr. Feng's work unit head talked to him multiple times, trying to coerce him into giving up his practice of Falun Gong. He was later fired for refusing to give it up. That same year, during time of the "Two Conferences" (the People's Congress and the Political Consultation Conference), Mr. Feng was detained for 15 days by the Tuanchengshan Police Station.
In the earlier half of 2000, in order to appeal for the name of Falun Gong, Mr. Feng went to Beijing. He was arrested and detained by the Beijing police. After the Beijing police telephoned his local police authorities, Mr. Feng was taken back to his hometown's detention center and detained for 45 days. During the detention, he went on a hunger strike to protest and remained steadfast in his belief in Falun Gong. Later he was released on bail and taken back home by his family.
In 2000, in order to avoid constant harassment from the local authorities, Feng Zhigang had to flee his home for over six months.
In early 2001, facing harassment and persecution from the local authorities, Feng Zhigang went to the appeals office in Beijing again. He was taken back by the local police and detained for about 50 days. Later, he was transferred to the Shizishan Forced Labor camp in Wuhan City to serve a one-and-a-half year term. During his detention in the labor camp, he was inhumanly tortured by the camp guards and beaten until he was on the verge of death. In order to avoid responsibility for his death, the authorities notified his family and released him on bail for medical attention in March 2002. His family took him to the hospital for treatment. During his stay in the hospital, the local police still kept harassing him. As a direct result of the beating and torture, Feng Zhigang's ribs developed ulcers and his lungs were filled with fluid. During his surgery, three ribs had to be shortened. Afterwards, he continued to practice Falun Gong and gradually recovered. His medical treatment cost over 100,000 yuan, most of which was borrowed. It caused severe hardship for his entire family.
In August 2005, Feng Zhigang was arrested again while visiting a friend's home in Huangshi City. During the police detention he was beaten multiple times and later sentenced to two and a half years of forced labor. He was sent to the Shayang Forced Labor Camp, where he was tortured both physically and mentally. His health deteriorated quickly and he was released on bail for medical treatment. However, the local police still kept harassing him at home. In early 2006, he had to flee home to avoid further persecution. He later went to Guangzhou City.
During the past eight years, Feng Zhigang's mother has often shed tears due to missing her son. Her worries and anxiety caused her to become mentally disoriented. The financial burden of supporting the whole family fell solely on Feng Zhigang's father, who had to take care of his wife and children, and at the same time look everywhere to find his son.
