(Clearwisdom.net) At around 10:00 p.m. on September 25, 2007, a coordinated campaign to arrest Falun Gong practitioners was launched by the Gonghe County Police Department in Hainan Autonomous Prefecture of Tibetan Nationality in Qinghai Province. A deputy chief with the surname of Dong led five plainclothes officers to break into the home of Ms. Zhang Shumei, a practitioner in her seventies. They were looking for truth-clarification materials. The police took Ms. Zhang Shumei into custody after searching for over an hour.
In addition, practitioners Ms. Xu Yinglan and her husband Mr. Jia Baoping, their non-practitioner daughter Ms. Xu Xia, and practitioner Ms. Zhao Xiuhua were taken into custody by officers of the Gonghe County Police Department at their homes. The police also confiscated Ms. Xu's computer, printer, and other accessories, with a total value of over 10,000 yuan. The officers also took over 20,000 yuan in cash or equivalents, including an 800 hundred yuan deposit certificate in Ms. Xu Xia's name (her income from odd jobs), a deposit receipt of over 20,000 yuan (the lump sum payment Mr. Jia Baoping received from his years of employment when he was laid off), and an unknown amount saved by Ms. Xu Yinglan from her sewing work.
Ms. Xu Yinglan and Ms. Zhao Xiuhua were sentenced to three years and two years of forced labor in 2001 respectively. Ms. Xu Yinglan suffered pain in one of her legs and she could hardly walk, yet, the labor camp guards still forced her to engage in heavy labor. She was also threatened and otherwise abused. A labor camp physician named Chen Qinghua was especially vicious. Chen received karmic retribution when he fell while stepping off a bus and fractured his pelvis.
Ms. Zhang Shumei, Ms. Zhao Xiuhua, and Ms. Xu Xia have been sentenced to two years of forced labor. Ms. Xu Yinglan and her husband, Mr. Jia Baoping, have been unlawfully placed under arrest.
